Blueprint installation

Please forgive my stupidty if this is an obvious question or has been answered before.

How do Blue-prints actually work. And I mean, do they automatically upgrade the item they are designed for, or do I need to activate them at some kind of workbench or shop.

I know some can be found in thw world and some bought from shops, but how do I install/upgrade them to my weapons, etc.

I've tried google and all I can find is how to locate all blueprints.....

When you locate one, make sure you pick it up. Then when you go to a black market, the *option to use it* is there. It'll show up saying "you have new blueprints available". In order to use them, you have to pay the clerk and after that it's open to you.

Remember that the little white dots on the upper right of the store page are your different types of equipment - crossbow, pistol, sword, armor, etc. Click through those until you see the gaps filling up, those are the blueprint slots being activated, and when you've bought into them there is usually I think a checkmark in them. If you haven't found the blueprint, the option won't appear at all.

The ones that show up in ORANGE are 'mutually exclusive', so if you have one that does something you like more than the other, you install that and can never use the other option for it.
