I will note to anyone who gets frustrated by that level that it's a really good place to have passive powers like agility upgraded, as they still work.
They set up that "escape the room" puzzle because they want to make sure you understand how the timepiece works before you explore the rest of the mansion. The point is that the way out crosses both timelines, you can't escape if you try to stay in one. That's the idea the whole level is built around, better to make you figure it out at the start than get stuck later on in a much riskier situation.
Are you still having trouble? (for anyone else finding this thread looking for hints: the exit is through the doorway, just a little indirectly)
Just try to think about having to change time periods in each room and search around in each time period for each room. If you get stuck in an area remember to look at each scene in both times carefully and observe the differences. You should be fine then :)
Remember you can look into the opoposing time by holding the timepiece like a fan as well. It's useful for stalking and taking out people.
You didn't use it, that's kind of on you. It was wonderful in design, and I feel personally it was the best single level of any game I've ever played. I even went back to it a couple times separately from doing a full replay, just to see the variety of ways it can be done.
if you didn't figure out what to do, it's not the game's fault, because it was an absolutely brilliant and fully integrated 'puzzle' level.
...Not to say that the problem OP had doesn't happen to me sometimes, too.
Save a lot, and I mean a lot.
Not having blink made this especially hard.
Really liked this mission though.
In my "no powers" playthrough, it was probably the mission I enjoyed the most.
As you actually have a special ability there by using the time piece, while you have no powers in any other map on that mode.
But this is of course not a record of my first playthrough. I needed some time to figure stuff out either.
Still I found it very interesting and it was something pretty refreshing to play.
Switchting between two time zones, where the map is the same, but still pretty different as the manor has been changed through the course of time.
And by your actions, you're able to change the whole history either.
So even if it can be hard for the first time, as soon as you got used to it, you probably will enjoy this unique kind of map pretty much. (hopefully ;))
