Mission 7 rant.
Hello forum. Spoiler alert, if you haven't reached mission 7 yet, proceed to read at your own risk. To make a long story short i want to say that mission 7 is such a load of bull and see if anyone agrees. So i love the game in general but damn, that awful mission. I'm not even talking about not being able to use Powers, no. I'm talking about escaping the room. Never before in this game i needed to watch a playthrough to figure out what to do. I swear, i've tried everything, searched every corner in both present and past. Apparently all i needed to do is turn around and use a Time Piece. ... I mean really, really, just like that? Now i know i'm not very smart, but how was i supposed to figure it out? I would have never solved it on my own. So far it was good, but this one chapter kinda killed the game for me a little bit. Does anyone agree?

Which room do you mean? It all seemed like average puzzle solving to me. I really enjoyed it.

The first room where you meet Aramis Stilton and get the Timepiece. Where your object is to exit the room.

That was one of my favorite missions in either of the games. Gorgeous level, interesting mechanic, very high-tension in a couple of places, especially when you're trying to ghost it. You don't have as much mobility but I think they built around they pretty well, and since the timepiece can be used constantly without mana you always have a panic button.

I will note to anyone who gets frustrated by that level that it's a really good place to have passive powers like agility upgraded, as they still work.

They set up that "escape the room" puzzle because they want to make sure you understand how the timepiece works before you explore the rest of the mansion. The point is that the way out crosses both timelines, you can't escape if you try to stay in one. That's the idea the whole level is built around, better to make you figure it out at the start than get stuck later on in a much riskier situation.

Are you still having trouble? (for anyone else finding this thread looking for hints: the exit is through the doorway, just a little indirectly)

That's the best mission in the whole game!

Great, so everyone loves it! Awesome! Looks like i'm the only person that couldn't manage to think of a way to escape through the door/lattice. Damn am i stupid. Because i was looking for a key. Also vithout Dark Vision i suck at finding stuff. If i couldn't escape the room, i'm not sure if i should go further at all if there are more complicated places ahead.

Just try to think about having to change time periods in each room and search around in each time period for each room. If you get stuck in an area remember to look at each scene in both times carefully and observe the differences. You should be fine then :)

Remember you can look into the opoposing time by holding the timepiece like a fan as well. It's useful for stalking and taking out people.

The time piece is actually pretty easy. I used it to fight the guards. Imagine the look on their face when you disappear in front of them and seconds later scratch their back with a blade!

Meh. I thought I was stupid for taking so long to figure that out. Now I've learned some people can't do it without looking up the solution...

The time piece was given to you for a reason.

You didn't use it, that's kind of on you. It was wonderful in design, and I feel personally it was the best single level of any game I've ever played. I even went back to it a couple times separately from doing a full replay, just to see the variety of ways it can be done.

if you didn't figure out what to do, it's not the game's fault, because it was an absolutely brilliant and fully integrated 'puzzle' level.

I remeber at least Corvo saying when you're standing close to the door "I'll have to use the time piece to get out of here". I just thought: "Yeah, i get it! Stop talking to yourself unnecessarily". The way they are taking you by the hand in games sometimes is borderline offensive.:KSmiley:
...Not to say that the problem OP had doesn't happen to me sometimes, too.

It's a spot the difference puzzle. Probably my favorite mission since you can use the Time Piece to get into position behind enemies without actually being in thier timeline. Then switch and unleash hell!

If you could move their bodies through time that would be perfect

Oh man that mission was really hard, going for non-lethal ghost run.

Save a lot, and I mean a lot.

Not having blink made this especially hard.

Really liked this mission though.

That mission was a pain in the ass to ghost and explore every room and collect all runes etc. It was an incredibly well-executed and interesting mechanic but by the end I just wanted it to be over...and then knocking out Stilton completely changed the present timeline. I was like "for ♥♥♥♥ sake".

In my "no powers" playthrough, it was probably the mission I enjoyed the most.
As you actually have a special ability there by using the time piece, while you have no powers in any other map on that mode.

But this is of course not a record of my first playthrough. I needed some time to figure stuff out either.
Still I found it very interesting and it was something pretty refreshing to play.
Switchting between two time zones, where the map is the same, but still pretty different as the manor has been changed through the course of time.

And by your actions, you're able to change the whole history either.

So even if it can be hard for the first time, as soon as you got used to it, you probably will enjoy this unique kind of map pretty much. (hopefully ;))
