I thought Crack in the Slab was going to kill me the first time through, especially because it was so disorienting. I thought on the second playthrough I'd just do the minimal and get it over with, and ended up taking my time with it, getting more familiar with the map, and embracing it. It's an amazing level that, after five play-throughs, still fills me with dread.
I think you have to be very careful - I think you can lose access to some runes if you don't grab before making one of the major decisions in the level (knocking out or killing Aramis, thus changing the present).
Ahhhh, but there was no way I was going back in there anyway lol.
This is my first playthrough (told you I was in there a long time lol), so second playthrough may be easier (which I sincerely doubt :P)
What possessed me to go with a new character (Emily) and attempt a Ghost playthrough (failed) for my first go, I do not know!
On my first run, I played Em just for the novelty. I didn't work hard at Ghost/Clean Hands or even getting all the pickups (which means I left runes behind) because I wanted to simply enjoy the story and get to know the maps.
Stilton's manor is difficult to learn to get around because you're working with at least two full maps and lots of obstacles. After five play-throughs, I still don't have it down.
lol I do love spying through the looking glass after causing mayhem!
Also, on a personal note, I have absolutely NO spacial memory, or sense of direction** so it takes me a LONG time, if ever, to remember my way around anywhere. And I can look at the maps until my eyes bleed and still not make any sense out of them.
** I was once in an MMO Guild who listed as rule no. 1 "Never follow Imma" - some players still did, and died regretting it :P
P.S. It may be frustrating as hell, and I definitely turn the air blue every few minutes, but the sense of satisfaction when you get it always overshadows the frustration for me.
I'm sorry, I had to laugh at the "Never follow Imma" story. Have fun!
