Corvo's face? Wasn't he branded at the start of the first game?
I bought Dishonored 1 and 2 recently and have finally gotten around to playing the first game, all these years after it's initial release. It's a fantastic game and I'm looking forward to jumping into the second game soon.

This morning I played through the tutorial secotion for 2 and Corvo's face was kind of bothering me. Wasn't he branded at the start of the first game? During the interogation scene with High Overseer Campbell standing over him.

Throughout my playthrough I was under the impression that Corvo wore his mask to hide the Heritic's Brand on his face (aswell as his true identity of course) but that doesn't appear to be the case. This little wrinkle to Corvo's character made branding Campbell in mission 2 of the first game incredibly satisfying. However, this seems to just be something I've made up because none of the official artwork I have seen, or Corvo's appearance in the second game seems to show any scars what-so-ever.

Looking back at the intro scenes its clear that Corvo doesn't actually recieve the Heritic's Brand, which, I have to admit feels like it detracts my satisfaction for getting revenge on Campbell in the first game somewhat. However, the scene clearly shows Corvo being branded across the face with a glowing hot steel.

Am I just missing something here?

To disscuss this further I thought it was a good character development point for Corvo to have everthing taken away from him, everything including his identity, his face. But that seems to be something I've just made up.

The interogation scene I reference is at 6:18

you're in first person, the hot poker gets applied to you, but you can't tell if it's face or shoulder or chest or .... would've been silly to brand his face there anyway, would've looked suspicious at his execution.

The Heretic's Brand is only used on Overseers who have gravely failed their duty, so the High Overseer has no reason to use that on Corvo. To me it seems like he got the burning iron on his upper arm, but like Loryn said, can't be sure.
Being marked with the Heretic's Brand is still a very nasty fate for an overseer, perhaps even worse than death. ;)
From the player's view on that scene it's always looked like the poker touches the shoulder or even the upper arm to me. Definitely not the face anyway.

They never branded his face I played this game through six times and it doesn't happen. But Overseer Campbell did get the heretics brand.

The brand was torture. Maybe there should be a burn on his face or neck, but it isn't the Heretic's Brand. The Heretic's Brand is reserved specifically for Overseers (even High Overseers) that betray the rules of their religious order. Thus being named 'Heretic'.

The purpose of the mask is twofold: to hide his identity, and to create a recognisable symbol of fear.
