Crash to desktop, no error message
Just bought this on sale...and I can't play more than 5min without this happening.

i7-6700K@4.00GHz
16 RAM
GTX 1070 (latest driver 6/28)
Win10 (updated along with directX)

It's not a heating issue, CPU never went above 41C during the short time the game was running. CPU is 30C right now.

Is there a fix? Or do I return this unplayable POS before my time to return the POS is up?

Verify the game files, first off. Right-click the game icon in your library, click properties, local files, and verify. Restart Steam. Check that your game is allowed through your firewall / virus scanner. Run the exe as admin?

Is it crashing at a specific place, or just 'after a few minutes'?

Just after a few minutes. The files are verified.

Cranking down the graphics doesn't work, but even if it did it would still be a return.

It's not even reflected in the computer's event viewer that anything crashed. You just blink and the game is closed and gone.

I'm finding posts all over about this specific issue, with no fix, dating back as far as Nov2016. It sounds like a release with no fix issue. Kotaku even did an article on the PC version being borked. Just looking for confirmation that Bethesda never did fix it.

Same happening to me... Although not today for some reason. Strange

did you overclock your gpu if yes its because of that

No. Just snapped the card onto the MB and downloaded the drivers. None of that higher eschelon stuff because I don't have those skills, and I'm not going to mess with something like that when I don't have the know-how.

Everything else plays fine. The AC Syndicate. AC Rogue. The old ME3. DA:I.

This happened to me just once on the whole playthrough. Wasn't a big deal. Just quicksave more.

Hi Did you fix this problem?
Burdpal Apr 17, 2018 @ 10:58am
I have the same issue. No permanant fix unfortunately.

For the record, my settings are as follows:

Intel Core i7-4790 @4GHZ, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 970 EVGA.

There are some bandaid solutions that have helped me have fewer crashes.

1. In your Nvidia Control Panel, set Dishonored 2's "Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames" to 1. Set "Power Management Mode" to Prefer Maximum Performance.

2. Set your Virtual Memory equal to your RAM.

3. If you are crashing after 10-15 seconds of playing, your save files are completely corrupted. The only fix would be to restart the mission.

No matter your system, you will experience some crashes to desktop without error messages. Arkane is abundantly aware people suffered with this ID Tech 5 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it's why Death of The Outsider has so many settings preset outside of the video settings (they removed the character model detail setting in DOTO because they forced the preset to "very low").

Edit: ♥♥♥♥, didn't realize I helped necro this post thanks to the above poster. I'm sorry.

You'll want to give more information... like your system specs, whether you've updated any software / drivers recently, etc... without knowing anything more, no one can help.

Jesus christ Bethesda

Belated update, now that someone's reactivated this thread. There was something latent not right with the mobo, it crapped out a couple months later. (Suddenly, death and not able to power-up, power source and fans fine, kind of fail.) So, I've since replaced it and added two additional sticks of RAM, 32 total.

This very well could've been hidden technical difficulties. Or, it's Bethesda and my failed mobo is simply coincidental.
Zekiran Nov 7, 2018 @ 4:20pm
It's almost always coincidence, but yipes, failing mobo sucks .

A couple month ago I still played fine, but I just downloaded the game and It crashed right after the " press enter " screen.
