When do you get powers back?

Playing the demo, and the age old trope of losing powers at the beginning of the sequel for the sake of progression. It's annoying, so how long does it take to start getting any sort of decent abilities for Corvo?

Once you escape dunwall, the outsider visits you when you wake up.

I don't even understand the deal with his powers. At the start of the game he has the mark and his powers from the previous game because he uses powers fighting Delilah. Then get's knocked out and wakes up with a bruised noggin and suddenly all his magical powers have disapeared. Then next level the Outsider shows up and is like "hey want your magic back". It didn't make much sense.

You didn't see Delilah rip the mark off your hand in the intoduction then? It happens very clearly right in front of you. I'd go into detail about how she can do that but spoilers...

People don't pay attention to cutscenes, then wonder what happened and complain about things not making sense.....
