All saves are gone!
Was geht hier ab?

What's going on here? I was still playing tonight and was glad to have survived the 12 rounds and now I restart the game to continue playing, I see that my saves are empty! And in the Planetbase_Data folder which is level0, although I have all but 3 achievements?!
Where are my saves now please? All gone??

My saves are stored here.
C:\Users\yournamehere\Documents\Planetbase\Saves
Good Luck. I know its frustrating to lose that much progress

I found my saves were here:
C:\Users\<account>\OneDrive\Documents\Planetbase-<ComputerName>

Strangely, I have multiple directories there with the same name, but with a number after them... first has no number, then -2, -3, -4 and so on. I've also found that the game does not see that I have save files when I start it up. No "Load" option is available to me.

Copying the most recent Planetbase-<Computer>-11 into Planetbase-<Computer> did nothing for me, and the game still acts as if I have no save files.

Definitely something changed with 1.4.0!

And I realize others have said "Don't use OneDrive for saves" but this wasn't a decision I made willingly. That's just where the game has put them now. I didn't have this problem before.

I have found a temporary fix.
1. Grab the last working directory you know that has your saves (like, from yesterday or the last sessioin you played) and set it aside.
2. Disable OneDrive sync for 8 hours (or whatever you prefer)
3. Remove all but one of the Planetbase directories
4. Rename the remaining Planetbase-<ComputerName> directory to Planetbase
5. Put your files in it from the backed up directory
6. Start Planetbase and your saves and settings should be present in the game.

Is your computer using OneDrive for the default Windows "documents" folder, even if you did not ask it to?

Microsoft official instructions to remove OneDrive:

Yes it's quite obvious now why OneDrive is the problem. I have PlanetBase present on two computers, and as such there is a copy for each (or would be) so OneDrive is renaming my copy on this PC instead of syncing the two together, it would appear. This is the most likely cause for a lot of people's trouble in this situation.

Disabling OneDrive is the best temporary fix. Removing OneDrive is the best permanent fix.

Unfortunately, after having tried many things (including clearing cached credentials, reinstalling OneDrive, etc as suggested by Microsoft) my directory is still negatively impacted by the way OneDrive operates, which might be rooted in the fact that there is some synchronization issue. Until I can solve that, I must rely on temporary disablement of OneDrive sync when I'm going to play (and ensuring the directory name is "Planetbase" prior to game start up), and can only suggest the same for others. Otherwise, removal of OneDrive is the final solution to avoiding this situation.

you can also copy the save to another location from time to time, to keep a backup so you don't lose all your progress if something happens.

this problem happens in many games. onedrive decides your files are usseless and deletes them

That may be why I've never had the problem. I never use onedrive. It may sound paranoid but once a file is in the cloud you just never know. Microsoft loves us I'm sure but even they screw up once in a while.(: I also keep backup copies of my save directories for my most used games. You get surprised by an unruly update every so often.
