I have 3 or more massive storehouses in every game I play ALWAYS full of ONLY starch!!! its a nuisance. Am I doing something wrong?? or am I missing something?

Sounds like you might have too many starchy crops in your agri-domes. Try replacing some starchy crop planters with something else.

I know I do have alot of wheat and maize but was worried about malnutrition if I didnt have enough. I will try to get a better balance if I can. TY

You should mix it up with regular vegetables (like the tomatos, onions, etc.). And if you're producing too much, replace with trees which provides oxygen until the resource level gets more balanced.

You can combine wheat with tomatos (--> produces pasta) and wheat with meat (--> produces burgers). So it is sufficient to have wheat and tomatos and meat (from labs). Try to avoid massive overproduction of starch, it can be the downfall of your colony. If too much starch fills your storages, it takes away necessary room for other goods. And starch has to be carried, preventing your colonists from doing something else and making them unhappy. Both can lead to starvation.

Everything has to be carried anyways. And if there's one thing I've learned from this game, it's that everything in the extreme leads to starvation :)

Maize will substitute for Wheat in recipies. It's a slowing growing crop so starch production will slow down allowing you to reduce your surplus. Add a vegetable pad for every three wheat pad converted to maize if the food quantities need to be maintained.

Build another Processing Plant and fill it with Bioplastic Processers. Set the priority to high and if needed bring in more workers to keep the processers working. One or two starchy pads will keep one processer busy. One bioplastic processer to one engineer and medic workstation will keep the bioplastic moving. Add another one or two for building and trade if you get a surplus.

You then have the option trading the bioplastic, using it to make more medicines, repair parts, semiconductors, bots or guns when you add medicinal plants or iron. Every additional step adds value for trades.

I've got a medium bio-dome with 4 starchy pads, a large with 6 starchy pads, and a very large with another 4 starchy pads, and I can't get starch fast enough to support 4 workbench, a spares workshop, a semiconductor workshop, and a bot workshop. I don't have everything running at once because of the shortage, but production is acceptable.

thanks guys for your advice! Ive managed to get starch supplies right down thanks to you lot! sometimes too much! LOL

i deal in weapons and medical supplies. chews up the bioplastic fast. my bio farms are massive each housing 22 wheat plants
cswheele Aug 26, 2016 @ 12:21am
use it to create my robot army then to the weapons manufacturing

I try to separate my starch production from food production A biodome full of rice connected to a bar will crank out the starch and use up the excess food. Shut them down when not starch isn't needed. During a famine, shut down the bar and add mystery meat for burgers.

yeah i only use the vitromeat now. 22 wheat plants to 12 synthesizers. rotate each one to make different meat bingo problem solved. now thats a lot of starch. well i do have 140 colonists and about 40 engineers. if my colonists must create the problem of starch then they will work to burn it. creating semi-conductors and weapons manufacturing domes should burn that stuff right out. just build the correct number of mines and bots to operate it. and have enough of the bioplastic machines. for one dome of food i have 1 full dome of just plastic machines to handle the starch. THINK BIG AND LONG TERM you have to find a way to control the starch and bioplastic build up over the long haul. bots will be the answer when handling the trading. yes i do take a massive cut in profit from the trade ships but by that point the credits are past the game actively displaying the count!!! XD

for 70 colonists my layout is generally 16 workers. 16 engineers. 13-15 biologists. 3 doctors. and 3-7 security staff. even at max this will give u 57 total colonists. fill in with some extra workers and engineeers to cover during break periods of work. ive been working with this model for a while. generally with 24 engineers. as i like to get my bots built fast. so i have 2 robot construction rooms each with 8 stations. AIRLOCKS!!!! YOU MUST HAVE MULTIPLE AT EACH TRADING ENTRY TO THE BASE OTHERWISE PEOPLE WILL DIE FROM NEED FAILURES DURING LONG LINES AT THE AIRLOCKS! currently im around 140 colonists with a similar bot count.

im also playing on the class S planet too. which is supposedly the hardest. my only agreement with this is that the build areas are super confined due to a plethora of natural barriers.
