Optimal Bar/Canteen/MultiDome layout
How do you guys lay out your canteens, bars and multi domes to maximize efficiency? For example with a large canteen, I'm using 9 meal makers, 3 small tables, 3 water fountains, a plant and as many video screens as my connections allow. It'd also be interesting to see what you put for smaller sizes, like.... is the smallest multidome even worth it? Seems odd to put anything other than two exercise bars and two benches because the plants and water fountains can be thrown in a canteen.

The best layout I have found is using the biodome as a central hub. Connected to it is the storage for excess starch and vegetables, the canteen for easy meal maker access, the bar for easy drinks access, and the multidome for easy water/recreation.

It helps if you have an equal set of multidomes dedicated to either benches/chairs/plants for leisure, and another for workout gym equipment/water fountains/tv screens.

But there is no such thing as too many water fountains, as it takes the AI along time to fulfill their thirst need. It magnifies the issue when you have 300+ in your base and only a few water fountains scattered throughout. So anywhere you can stick a water fountain is a good idea.

My canteen setup usually consists of 6 meal makers with 1 water fountain each on their platforms, as well as 6 small tables each with a plant, and a video screen as the connections allow.

What interior layout do you use for your large multidomes?

For the biodomes, I split it evenly, half veggies and half starches. Obviously the starch plants also produce veggies, which is great cuz you never run into starvation issues.

Then I convert my smaller startup biodomes to just medicinal plants and trees.

As for multi-domes I do one hamster wheel per square, plus one pull up bar for each square that has a wheel in it. After that its all benches, plants, and water fountains.

For smaller multidomes, I don't do any exercise equipment at all. Just water fountains and benches and tv's.

This is my favourite layout for canteens:

Small: 2 Meal makers, 2 Large tables, 2 Plants, 2 Water fountains.
Large: 6 Meal makers, 6 Small tables, rest of space for plants and water fountains

I like the dual canteen method. One canteen dedicated to meal makers. The other one dedicated to tables and televisions. One quadrant dedicated to a couple of water fountains in each one.

This is great for logistics and base planning, because I use the meal maker canteen as another hub type structure, whereas the table canteen I limit the amount of connections to two to maximize the televisions.

I didn't come up with it. It's in a guide posted on the Steam page. I highly recommend the guide, but specifically the two canteen method has always helped me a bunch.

Also, while I find the recreation area fun, it's not very effective. I have one in my tourist section coming off my sole HUGE starport area, but outside of that I don't really build them. And while bars are effective, they throw off my ratios, so I don't build too many of them.

I have a lot of colonists that use the recreation area but only after deaths.
