What does drawn below "hardcore" mode do? I don't dare check the box in fear of it deleting my drawings or somethin...

It's a perma-death mode. If you die you must start over the DLC and lose everything you collected in this level (pencils and hearts).
But it's not hard once you know the map layout and are used to combat.
I don't think you'll lose your drawings.

I have no clue how to properly fight in this game. Reminds me of Ys 1, when you got hurt trying to hit. I can't beat the Final Final Boss =/
