Risen

When do I get armor so I stop dying?
Seriously, I have played like 2 hours of the game and I am still in the same crap I washed ashore with and a wooden shield and a sword that does 15 damage. I am in the Camp area and I would really like to not lose so much health when fighting. So where can I get better gear I am getting very annoyed.

gear is a big thing in risen, you can buy some clothes off of the worker boss, don't remember his name, but they're ♥♥♥♥ for what they cost. in harbour town, you can buy a bit better armor, but you won't get your first proper armor until you've joined one of the factions. practice your shield, pull monsters cleverly, save a lot. that's risen.

Well. I am at the camp and I cant kill the damn Goul in that mine because my sword is a piece of crap. I have done just about everything in the camp I only need one more piece of that gold sword which is in the mine. I even put it to easy and the damn things still destroy me. I block until an opening but then I just end up getting hit.
ghouls are mid-game stuff, they're not supposed to be killed at the beginning. you can luck out and kill it with some of the early badass weapons, but that's for advanced players.

So where is that last piece of sword?
I know the red bearded guy in the camp has one piece, the bad guy who's mistreating everybody etc, don't remember the name, you're supposed to defeat him in the arena. if you haven't done that, then he has one.

I'm also pretty sure, that you didn't have to defeat a ghoul to get all the pieces. so ghoul is too deep.

Alternatively, if you can´t defeat him, you can try to pickpocket the last piece out of him (his name should be Brogar), although I don´t remember what skill level you need to have (probably 1).
As for gear, the workers clothes in the camp are very costy (about 500 Gold) and you need to have done the tasks for the worker boss beforehand, but they offer the best protection off all the pieces of armor you can get at this point (the ones in the city only offer half as much protection). They might be a good investment if you have trouble in combat, as weaker enemies can´t deal much damage to you anymore, and there are a few (optional) fights in the city that can be quite though without the additional armor.

Also, what wolf_squad said about the ghoul. Avoid it at all cost, until around the second chapter at least.

Okay. I think I have to restart my game becuase now since I did that Payment quest for Brogar no one talks to me and I cant fight with anyone now. I beat Domingo but now Lorenzo wont even talk to me and I don't know who the other guy is. I think I really messed up.

Edit: So should I go to the camp first or Harbor first? Which helps more?

Can you elaborate a bit on the Payment quest? Did you finish it without talking to the Don´s wife, or without giving her the proof first (the list you found from the corpse in the swamp cave)? If you still have the list, check if you have talked to everyone listed on it.
Also, how many people did you fight in the arena? There are 5 people in total, but Brogar only fights if you beat all the other ones first and corner him with evidence, and Lorenzo won´t fight you if you finished his quest beforehand (the one where you follow him "to a temple").

If you still want to restart, I would say that you should make your choice depending on what guild you want to join. If you want to join the Order or the Mages, go to the swamp first, as you can´t finish the Bandit quests after you join their adversaries (just do as many easy quests there as you can for some quick experience). If you want to join the Bandits, go to the Harbor, as they will send you to the swamp later anyway, and you should be strong enough at that point to finish everything there, including the fights.

wow, I actually didn't think that worker's clothes were better than that captain's suit you can get in Harbour Town, haha. oh well.

and thkim's advice on start sounds good. even though I still think that bandit's camp is a valid first choice even for bandits. either way you go, doing bandit's camp is the smart thing to do at the beginning, extra xp and stuff goes a long way.

also, do you really have to restart? I don't think the game can be broken in such a manner that only restart can help. google a guide or something, perhaps somebody can sort you out.

Yeah I gave list to Brogar because I thought he was gonna give me that last pice of the sword but I was wrong..this guy is an duche. And I already restarted. So the Bandit camp in harbor? I wont get drawn into the mages will I? I want to be with the order not the inquesition.

If you want to join the Mages, you need to work with the Inquisition in Harbor City AND complete the tasks that the Priest there will give you. That way, you will get a letter that allows you to choose to become either a mage or a member of the Inquisition (otherwise, you can only join the Inquisition).

Also, just to make that clear again, joining the Mages will also nullify the quests in the Bandit Camp, so try finishing those (or at least as many as you safely can) before entering Harbor City, otherwise you´ll lose the precious EXP.

So the bandit camp is in the swamp area correct? I heard someone say about bandits in harbor city?
thkim Oct 5, 2013 @ 12:47pm
The Bandit Camp is in the swamp. There are, however, also bandits in the City. You need to work with them if you want to join the Bandits´ Guild.
MegaToxic Oct 5, 2013 @ 1:09pm
Yeah I want to join the bandits
thkim Oct 5, 2013 @ 1:28pm
Good, I guess you should know now how you can/want to proceed. Whether you want go to the Swamp or the Harbor City first ultimately isn´t super-critical if you want to join the bandits, I just think that visiting the City first saves you some time.
