I played as the Don and really enjoyed it - you can use magic but you have to make scrolls. The Order can use other magic. I would say go with the Order if you want to play Risen 2. Risen 2 assumes that you pick the Order and I am finding it a little annoying for the sake of consistency.

YEAH actually played risen 2 on ps3 before i picked this up lol think i'll go with the order for the first playthrough then just to keep with the plotline. so far im liking this one better than the second, its much harder

Well, you have to assume also what you want to train, because each one offers different playstyles:

Don's Men:
- Combat with Swords and Axe to lvl 10.
- Cant use magic crystals.
- Can't use Runes.

Warrior of the Order:
- Combat with staff to lvl 10.
- Can use magic crystals.
- Can't use Runes.

Mage:
- Can use Runes.

In my opinion, for first Playthrough is better to become one of the Don's men, because it has a different story from the main one at the begining.

I really don't like these threads, isn't the point of having a choice so you pick one that agrees with your playstyle and/or morals?

either way, I tend to like playing non magical characters so Don was for me. A bit annoying if the second game just assumes you picked order... but maybe it makes sense because even if you join the done you have to help the inquisitor to get the discs and save the land... so maybe you end up joining them after? not sure, haven't beat the game yet so can't say if that makes sense or not

alright first of all, SPOILERS dude, thanks for that and second the game isn't very clear on what the dons men do aside from steal and drink and act like swamp dweling Sopranos. I was asking for clairity to pick for my playstyle. and its fun to see what others picked. :goggles:

Well, in my opinion it is the best to go with Warrior of the Order for the first playthrough. Fighting with staff while aiding yourself with the power of the crystals is pretty much the most powerful thing in this game. And you don't really have to learn all these lockpicking or pickpocketing abilities - once you got your hands on the scrolls of opening, you can open every lock at ease, and there are numerous ways to collect important items from people without stealing from them. Basiaclly, focus on buliding up your strenght and mana (but not much), staff fighting skills, one of the crystals, alchemy and scroll writing. Oh, and be sure to join the Order by finishing all these quests in Harbour Town first, rather than by accidentally getting yourself caught. Acctually, whichever path you'll choose it is the best to finish some quests in Harbour Town first. Well.. good luck anyway :ss13ok:

I choose the Don. Mainly because I prefer that type of combat and also because I'm not big on conformity lol..

I tried Risen 2 soon as it released, and for some reason the movement was making me very dizzy/sick. I've played the first one a few times, didn't have that problem (though 3rd person isn't my favorite, it didn't bother me like the 2nd). I tried to play through it and couldn't ended up putting it aside. I hope it's been fixed, I'd like to install it again and play it through. Anyone else have the same issue?- Know if it's fixed? :sr4eagle:

(Op asked more about the Don's, these are what you'll use: ...)
Don's side: bows/c.bows, 1-2 handed swords, axe, block, hand-to-hand. Also they learn magic, sneak, theft (pickpocket or off a table for ex.), smithing, prospect, acrobat, scribe, mining, combat staff, scroll writing etc. Don's people are more free, you're not stuck anywhere, though everyone has to worry about getting caught by the order but there's a nice island to explore/level/loot in and you can do your own thing pretty easy without worries from the order. If picking the Don's just make sure the first time you go to Harbour Town you are "sent" there, otherwise you'll be nabbed by the order, unless that's your desire.

Look up a guide for more. They're all over online- free. :diamonddust:

Sometimes when FOV is less than 100 it makes me dizzy too. Though some games won't let you go past 90. Haven't tried Risen 2, yet, so I don't know is this the case. Hope it helps. :)

I played mage and mage is truly the most powerfull character. Equip a shield and 1H weapon and you got yourself a Battlemage!

Spoiler!
To become a mage, I heard you need to volunteer into the Order.

2nd spoiler
To become a mage you need to vounteer into the Order. To do that you need to enter the city unnoticed. Then do all order quests until you get a letter of rcommendation. With that letter you goto the monestry to train and become a Mage with capital M.

I just got myself caught because I didn't know how to get to harbor town and do the quests and I don't like the Don
Aww crap, I wanted to play as a mage. Now at the end of chapter 2, I realise I've become a member of the order instead and won't be able to use any runes...

Where did I go wrong?? The game always told me I can choose. When did I choose?
