Risen

Is Risen in the Gothic Universe?
I'm sure I'm not the only one to bring this up but I was thinking and I have come up with a theory. I think that Gothic 4 and Risen are two different time lines depending if the Orcs won or the rebels. If the Rebels one you got Gothic 4, if the orcs one and the gods were eliminated you get Risen. To me it seems that Risen is just set hundreds of years in the future but does take place in the same universe due to the simiular creatures and what stands out the most is the nameless mage that used his dark wave to wipe out the gods. If you remember in Gothic 3, Xades the Necromancer wipes out the gods which makes me think that Risen is the result of this. That is my theory, Agree? Disagree?

It's a whole different storyline actually, but that doesn't stop us from thinking how it could go :)

Risen is more like a continuation of the Gothic than Arkania =)

I like to think of it as the same relationship The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker has to Ocarina of Time.

Seperate time lines, the characters aren't truely related, though some of the world does feel related. The original series of Gothic has a more inland theme to it while Risen has more emphasis on Nautical themes in places.

Well actually WW and OOT are the same timeline. The characters, while not related by blood, are in fact part of the same world with the same lore. WW takes place many hundreds of years after OOT, at some point between the two games Ganon was resurrected but no hero came to stop him, so, it was the gods I think, that flooded the world in an effort to somehow stop ganon. It wasn't really well thought out. I mean, they only got half of the world flooded anyway.

Risen and the Gothic series are supposed to be in the same universe. Risen sets out with Xardas ending from Gothic, as the mysterious mage was mentioned. Gothic takes place on the Mainland, Risen(1 and 2) is based on islands. Also, in Gothic 2's expansion, Night of the Raven, you got to meet a captain named Greg(Gregorius Steelbeard) who is a pirate captain. Long story short, I think it IS the same universe.

Yeah I didn't explain myself very well in my previous post, however I still think the Comparison between the Gothic/Risen universe with the Zelda OoT/WW universe still stands.

Main difference being the Hero in Risen isn't directly related to the Hero in Gothic, and I don't think there's any "Spirit of the Hero embodies a new Avatar" voodoo going on.

Risen was MEANT to be in Gothic Universe, but JoWood's greedy behaviour that made Piranha Bytes want to leave, is the reason. They stole the rights from Piranha in their nasty deal to let them go their own way. Risen was written to be directly connected to Adanos ending from Gothic 3. Where Xardas and Nameless Banish the presense and representants of the Gods from the world including themselves, as they leave aswell in the very same manner that storyboard for Risen's intro shows. Faranga was meant to be first of the Southern isles we get to see in new trilogy in Gothic Universe starting with a new character. Things sadly fell through Risen 1 was only one that had remaining connections ot Gothic in story and gameplay, later games diverted wildly away both from the story of Risen 1 and formula, which sadly lead to Piranha's fall later, aswell as key figures leaving the team after Risen 1.
