Best way killing a "Ghul"?
Fighting against a "Ghul" ends always with death. I tried getting it done just striking-it failed. I tried in a more strategic way-it failed. So what's the best way getting 'em down?

chain your attacks, interrupt their power attacks or, alternatively, master dodging and avoid their attacks.

also, what level are you? ghouls are very hard to kill without a decent weapon and armor, ie, early in the game.

Thx
I'm level 12, hunter armor, leather helmet, Golden sword (30 Blade damage)
D u think I should level and try again? or just try harder?

Ghouls are one of the toughest enemies in the game. At level 12 you aren't really strong enough yet to take them on. Try to level up more, put some points into strength and sword skill so you can wield a b a s t a r d sword, maybe try to find a protection spell scroll.

Edit: This forum censors the word "b a s t a r d"? How lame.

By the way, if you are fighting the ghouls because you are trying to get through the tunnel that leads to the east coast, you can use a nautilus transformation spell scroll to sneak through there.
you can get to east coast by levitating down from the monastery as well. it's what I did, couldn't really take a pack of ghouls on reliably at the time, too.

for me was the best way too kill ghuls a bow or crosbow...find a position where this beast dont can see u..i think that thinks blind and hunt him down...or second version use a skelleton spell

Thx to all of you
Yes it's the tunnel to the east coast.By using the Nautilus Transformation I got this easily done. Will I be able fighting 'em when I try to return?

You can try, but that tunnel is really tough because you have to fight three ghouls at the same time. After you complete the quests on the east coast, you will have several new teleport runes that will enable you to bypass the tunnel completely. I just use those runes and don't even bother trying to defeat the ghouls.

I play the game as a bandit and concentrated on sword fight. The battles during the first 10 to 15 hours are very, very hard. I played over 50 hours today and thankfully am still in act 2 and not finished. I have reached level 17 now and can kill almost anything except ogers. Fighting stays hard but my blows kick ass now.

What helped me a lot was leveling up through alchemy. Collect every plant you see and never sell any plant, except for using them in quests. Then use your skill points to reach alchemy level 3. After reaching alchemy level 3 I created 14 potions that granted me 5 permanent strength points each. You need a certain plant to do so. I don't know the English name because I am playing the German version but I guess you know what plant I mean. You also need a recipe to do that but there are a few points in the game where you either find the recipe in a chest or can buy it.

You can use the same strategy if you concentrate on bow fighting, except that you create permanent dexterity potions instead of strength potions. It is also useful for increasing the permanent health level. I have stopped increasing my strength at 101 points.

By the way, I now have a sword with damage 70. Self made obsidian sword! ;-) You need forge level 3 to do that and obsidian and gold. Train mining with the treasure hunter Olf as early as possible to collect as much ore as possible. Again - don't sell anything!

The only things I trade are duplicate weapons, duplicate tools or weapons weaker than my own weapon. Everything else stays in my inventory. You never know when you need it.

One more thing. After reaching sword fighting level 7 you suddenly will notice that you can not find any character willing to train you further. This is because most sword fight teachers only teach until level 7. The only person who can bring you to level 10 is Fincher in the bandits hideout.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that there are a few more requirements for the obsidian sword:

- you need to reach act 2
- you need to get a sword from the new species you discover
- you need to investigate about the sword you got from that new species

Don't want to spoiler. :-)

If you follow the different quests you can also find a b a s t a r d sword with 55 hit points. It actually looks better than the obsidian sword but unfortunately it has less hit points.

Ogres I find doable (compared to some other enemies!) as long as I have space. Powerattack, doge backwards two times, rinse and repeat till ogre is dead. I have more trouble with Ghuls then Ogres (I guess most enemies are like a puzzle, once you figure out their patterns they become a whole lot easier). The Dodging backwards part is key, using a shield is all but useless against them.

Well I guess different players use different strategies. In my opinion a shield is essential, especially in the beginning of the game. Later you need it against the stronger enemies.
When fighting ghuls I slowly approach the enemy holding my shield. Once the ghul finished its attack sequence I counter attack. Ghuls need a little more time than other enemies to recover from counter attacks and in many cases you can simply keep clashing on it until its dead. It is important to mention that if you are using a sword and you have reached a certain level of swordsmanship (level 4 or 5 I think) you can significantly increase the speed of your attack sequence. To do so you have to press the attack button at the right moment. Try this without enemy to figure out the right moment and get a feeling for it.

If the agressive slashing tactic does not work it is also possible to keep moving backwards after each attack. Ghuls tend to crouch and release a blue (magical?) explosion. You have to watch the Ghul. If you see it crouching you can either attack quickly or move back quickly. I prefer to attack.

But I think Minfredus is still a little to weak for Ghuls. It might be best to skip them and play other quests until you are stronger or have better equipment.

Okay for now I'll take the teleport runes. I found that sword with 55 damage in the north-eastern ruin. Ogers aren't a big problem I think. Finally got one down, but it took very long.
What's the plants name in German? I'm from Germany too ;)
Chane Nov 10, 2013 @ 10:38am
The plant is called Heldenkrone. You will need a few other ingredients too but those can be found easily.

Shields are extremely useful, but against Ogres I found them of limited utility. Against the final enemy race I wouldn't try without a shield.
