No Blank Magic Scroll Dilemma?

If you find you're going no where fast, and can't create any spells due to no blank scrolls, it's most likely you failed to read or complete the basic light spell test at Volcanic keep, from Illumar. The solution to get some blank scrolls, I found, was to attack Jerivs without killing him, in the library and looting his body, which has 5 blank scrolls, As he's waking up cast Joker spell and on other in the room if they want to fight. Now you can complete making the light spell and passing the test with Illumar in the same room. Scroll are then readily available fro Illmar.

Caspar sells blank scrolls, too.

There is a chest in the vulcano keep that contains 2 blank scrolls for free.

So you managed to not only overlook the blank scrolls in traders inventory but also you overlooked a chest.

Risen is a game which focusses heavily on exploration. Well you can ignore the exploration but then you run into probems the developers intended. People who dont explore should not get everything. Its a form of reward system for the players who explore.

Lionhart and Oneeyed,true. I found that I created spells without completing the light spell creations test. I was stuck and Illumar locked up and wouldn't sell anything until I had done the spell. All the other sources I had already looted.

I did not even realize this was possible. I always make the light scroll immediately after learning "create scroll" so I can pass Illumar's test. Well at least you found a way around the problem that did not involve resorting to console commands.

@Lionhart, cheers. I play running my own course and not to expectations of the story. Lucky I persevered as the game opens up in the new chapter 2. I had thought I had completed everything bar the magic barrier areas.

I just remembered, there is a blank scroll on the wall of Josh's tavern in Harbour Town. Josh never sleeps, so you would have to either knock him out or use an illusion spell to take the scroll. I am pretty sure that is the only place in the game besides the monastery where you can find a blank scroll.

I know the OP already found a solution; I'm just mentioning this in case anyone else ever runs into this problem.

Edit: Another cool thing I just discovered: if you have a telekinesis scroll, you can stand outside the door of Josh's tavern and use telekinesis to snatch the blank scroll off the wall without alerting Josh or anyone else.
