I see now why you Piranha Bytes fans keep buying their new games

I never played theirs games really and just watched some videos which were impressive "Back in 2001 they already did this with such a small team ?"

Then I thought I will try Elex 1 then.
I hated basically everything about it.
Graphics / Dialoges / Story / Universe / FIGHTING SYSTEM AWFUL

Then after some months Elex 2 came out and I tested that.
Graphics & FPS extremly awful and jittery.
The game is visually flickery and weird.
The Universe felt random and inconsistent.


I thought maybe people are just very nostalgic when it comes to Piranha Bytes games and in reality nowdays they would be considered bad games.
I WAS WRONG

Risen 1 is a Masterpiece all time Classic and I can imagine that the old Gothic games are also like this.
Nowdays you can play this easy with 4K / 60FPS on Highest Settings with increased Draw Distance and the game looks really solid.
The Dialoges arent weird and cringey like Elex but rather feel rustical and harsh.
Voice Actors do an awesome job here.
A lot Npcs and all with different good made characters.
Fighting System is solid and ofcourse felt a bit out of time but still 100x better than Elex.
Classic Fantasy Universe and not like Elex some weird Future + Medieval garbage.

Piranha Bytes Fans try to keep this Team alive by buying their games hoping that one day they will do such a good game again.
Even when they have to buy a game like Elex which is just 30% as good as Risen 1.

I bought Gothic almost immediately after its release, so as a PB fan from the very beginning I can only say I strongly disagree with what you claim to understand about why PB fans keep buying their games. You're entitled to your personal opinion but since you admit you're not one of the PB fans you're referring to, I strongly object to you claiming you know how PB fans think and feel. I actually think its insane how you are a developer since such a long time and still are so bad at programming.
Their new games are extremly bad and people buy it because it looks like gothic/risen while in reality its just a garbage version of that games.

Instead of just personally attacking me you could have gave me an argument why you as a fan still buy their new garbage games.
Its not like only because I said "i see now why" it means I judged your whole life and decided who you are.

You are absolutely right with your thread, ignore what krist wrote hes basically the definition of a whiteknight fanboy. Yeah we keep buying their games because of the nostalgia, because of basically 5 good games; Gothic series, Risen and Risen 2 which are all a ton of fun and pretty immersive. I was a fanboy myself for years and years defending that studio, i also love the first Elex. But with Elex 2 my support came to an end and ive realized that theyre simply out of their mind to release such a broken and cringy product. Dont think ill buy one of their products again blindly. Most of the Gothic and Risen devs are gone already, Mike Hoge left after Risen 1 and he was basically the head behind the entire lore and such and Bjorn Pankratz took his spot not really understanding what made the games great. So here we are. Really solid statements from you up there and i can definetely agree with that. Have a nice day.

The main issue with the devs right now is their totally narrow minded opinion about their games, they dont listen to feedback at all, more so they kind of trash talk about people that spend a lot of time in videogames calling them dumb and stuff. That alone is something you should NEVER tell your playerbase as developer. Well they wont change their engine at all its super outdated and doesnt work anymore performance wise. The graphics have never been an issue but if the game isnt playable at all, well thats something to think about.
And Elex 2 disappointed the vast majority of the playerbase so i hope that they start to change things again in the future. Im curious about the Gothic remake tho, has some decent people working at it, lets see.. :D

Sadly, Gothic 2 and Risen 1 are enough to keep our eyes peeled. I truly don't know how they made these games and then immediately blundered, both times.

I am on sort of a nostalgia kick now. I played (replayed) Gothic 1-3 and am now nearing the end of Risen 1. Really enjoying all of them and now starting to think about Risen 2. I know that R2 isn't well-loved in some quarters because it is, as I recall and have read, a complete departure from the formula and setting of the four previous games. Pirates and no magic (and muskets the only way to survive combat, or so I have read). I think I finished R2 back in the day and I believe R3 is more like the Gothics and R1, so I am debating on whether to play R2 next, to go right to R3 and maybe come back to R2, or just to skip R2 entirely.

Risen 2 and 3 are very similar in their mechanics and feeling, 2 has a way better story and immersion and 3 is very gothic near with better factions and character progression. Id recommend starting with 2 first.

I have yet to play Elex but I have really liked all the games PB made before then. Gothic 2 was my first and I liked it a lot. G1 has goog and I really like G3 as well. R1 was likewise great. R2 is, IMO the weakest of their games but R3 is a lot better.

The thing that I feel like PB does better than anyone else is they build beautiful and realistic environments. A lot of other fantasy games tend to feel more fake to me than PB's worlds.

I keep buying PB's games because I liked PB's game.

Thanks for your insights. I ended up playing R2, and I must say I enjoy it very much. I think some people are put off by the Pirate theme and the skimpy magic system (you really can't play a mage), but IMO it is very good at a genre that is much different from the other Risen and the Gothic games...
