SPOILERS *** Inq - Don
First time playing this game but I know a little about it.. Is there a clear "YOU WILL JOIN THIS FACTION NOW IF YOU DO THIS QUEST" or are you suddenly part of their faction if you do a few quests for them? I think I wanna go INQ but I am now at the bandits and I do not wanna be locked in all of a sudden.

no suddenness, you'll know when the joining happens, and until then it's a good idea to work for both sides for max xp.

Not quite. There is a possible scenario you can get yourself into where you have no choice but to join the Order, but that ONLY occurs if you get yourself knocked out by them and you're outside Harbor Town. The only place where that's likely to happen is Harbor Town's eastern gate, so it's easy to avoid that scenario.

you're right, and even though op wants to join the inquisition, it's not the ideal way of doing so, but I'm not sure what the actual differences are, if any, except for the colder welcome. btw, it can also happen at the ruins near the swamp.

The moment you officially join the bandits is when you give the Don the package from Scordo. As long as you do not give him the package, you can do everything else they ask, and still join the Order later.

The moment you officially join the Order is when you enter the monastery for the first time, either by going there voluntarily, or by getting captured by the Warriors of the Order. Once you have entered the monastery, you cannot join the bandits.

The difference is that if you get captured and taken to the monastery against your will, you are forced to become a warrior. If you go to Harbourtown first and do the quests for Commandant Carlos, he gives you a letter of recommendation that lets you choose whether to become a warrior or a mage.

If you go to the monastery first and get conscripted as a warrior, they will eventually send you to Harbourtown to do the quests for Commandant Carlos anyway, so the only thing it really changes is the order in which you do the quests.

oh yeah, the warrior/mage thing, I remember now.

Doh's answer was fine. I managed to join who I wanted to and it was VERY clear to me I was joining them. Also, the forced route is obvious too because npc's do tell you many times if you get Captured by em it's done and over.

People who in the future play this game and have the same question as me will be made much wiser thanks to the input of you guys! Thank you.
