Risen

Game keeps crashing, tried a lot but no fix
Well, I recently installed Risen 1 and it went smoothly for about 3-4 hours. Then it started crashing once in a while - no biggie, old game what can you do. Then it came to a point where it crashed almost every 5 minutes.
I looked for solutions, and tried a couple. Reinstalling every possible version of microsoft visual c++, was no help at all. Running in compatibility, and reinstalling Intel graphics drivers did not help either. Reinstalling the game did help...for about 3-4 hours. I turned the graphics down as low as possible and sound to software, no help.
Then I deleted all save states except my quicksave. This did help for 1-2 hours, but then it started again. Now deleting savestates doesn't help.

Is there any known solution for this??

#Edit: almost forgot to describe the crashes better. Sometimes the game simply closes without any warning, sometimes I get a Runtime Error R6025 Pure Virtual Function Call, sometimes it simply freezes

Playing on win10 on my Acer laptop: Intel Core i3-4005U, 1,7GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Intel HD Graphics 4400. (yeah yeah, I know it's not good but it should be enough for this game)

You need to verify game files

Thanks for the quick reply.
It says '1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired'. Tried it 3 times, but still get crashes after 5 min.

I don't think your notebook is good enough:

First the game needs a 2 GHz processor for Risen. Since the game is an old game your multiple-core cpu don't do you any good.

Second the game needs at least a gtx 7900 and you only have a intel hd 4400. I have a notebook with a intel hd 520 which is much better and all 3D games run but they run really bad. The screen tearing makes your eyes bleed.

Comparison between 520 and 4400:

Hmm..but why did it work for 3-4 hours after the first install and reinstall?

I just had thought that since Skyrim worked on low-medium preferences this would as well. But then again Skyrim supports multi cores =/ (and 1.6-2 ghz as a minimum requirement if I recall correctly).
Yeah, my guess would also be on the graphics card.

2GHZ isn't really gonna be needed per se. The per clock performence of CPUs back then was lower than what the Core-i3 has.

In addition, the Geforce 7900 GTX is old Direct X9 only gear. It came out in 2006. Intel's GPUs are much faster now. Even the HD 4400.

Might be a driver issue. Have you tried looking to see if Risen has issues with Intel's drivers?

What a BS. A 1.7 GHz processor runs at max 1.7 GHz if not overclocked. It doesn't have the ability to magically runs faster without overclocking.

In addtion a intel HD 4400 is a really bad graphics card and it barely runs 3D applications. A GTX 7900 from 2006 is better than this onboard graphics trash. I own a notebook with a intel HD 520 which is better than a HD 4400 and all 3D applications run horribly and much worse than on my third desktop PC from 2006 with a 7900 GTX inside.

Before you post such a crap in a public forum you should have real experience and not only post your imaginary opinions.

Not yet, but I'll try and see what I can find.

As for the rest of the discussion: I am aware that my graphics "card" is not good. I was still surprised that Skyrim ran without problems while this game did not.

Thanks for the help from all of you :-)
