Second, if I haven't opened any of them, why would I have ANY items, to inform you of?
And as for reasons, well, I've always found that I get better items - trinkets, gear, gold, buffs, etc. when I open the Silver chests in later levels, rather than earlier ones. So I tend to save them for either when I'm frustrated and want to level someone NOW, or just before resetting for the better items, and to quickly level my ignored characters up to get more idols. Would you rather have a 30 minute Delorean, or a 4 hour Time Turner?
And lastly, I did say this is my First Event, so I've just been playing for barely two weeks, and not very seriously as all that. I DO NOT KNOW certain things that long time players take for granted.
Assume I am ignorant asking for help - which I am. Do not assume I am stupid - I am not.
Since the game is relatively new, and still a work in progress, I wil not assume that what was true for other events is still true now. The Jeweled Chests explain their contents - the plain ones don't. So do they always contain gear? What rarity when they do? Or is it better in the long run to focus on achievements, since I won't always use the Crusaders? There are many, many, many other questions at play and I don't know which ones to ask.
So I ask for general opinions on what people would do based only the framework of what I can potentially spend, versus what I can potentially earn.
I hope that clarifies why I asked what I did. And again, thank you for telling me that there is no gold.
The silver event chests can only contain common-rare gear, no epics. They always contain one piece of gear for the event crusaders and two other random boosts or trinkets (Except for warps. Silver chests - event or not - never contain warps.)
Also, I don't know if you're aware of it or not, but using warps gives you more event tokens (sunscreens). So you can always use them if you need some more tokens.
Thinking that you get better items out of the chests at higher levels is not entirely accurate. Yes, you get more gold from the chests the higher you are. But you do not get better items the higher you are. It's totally random. However, you're allowed to be superstitious and believe whatever you want.
As for as advice for how to spend the sunscreens, I suggest doing freeplays if you have any empty gear slots for the event crusaders after you open the chests. However, if you open the chests and have gear in every slot, you may want to spend the sunscreens on jeweled chests to get better gear to go in those slots. Yes, there's a chance that doing the freeplays could give you a jeweled chest, but it doesn't happen very often (I've only had 1 turned jeweled out of the 8 or so runs I've done).
However, I'm currently sitting on 11 different rarity warp cards. (Absolutely horrible in every game about using 'special' items.) I certainly have NOT opened 11 normal Jeweled Chests. I do thnk I may have gotten two of them from the same jewelled chest once, or was that Gold Drop Rate. . . Dangit, the Play History doesn't go back far enough to correct my faulty memory
hmm, 100 Rubies x 2 for the two I've completed + ~20days X ~20R average guestimate = 600 Rubies + 1 upgrade jeweld chest for 7 normal Jchests. For 6 opened JChests. So sue me, I like math, even if I don't apply it right.
And while I enjoy playing up to superstition, I don't generally believe in them. What I do believe in is Weighted Drop Tables. I also believe in Randomization. I only just got my first Splash buff 2-3 days ago, and now have 3. Out of nearly 20 days. I don't think those should be all that rare.
Still I think your advice is very good, and will consider it carefully as I make up my mind what to do at the end of this Free Play run.
Go for small chests. There's a good chance they'll convert to jeweled and you'll get idols too by resetting.
11,250 suncreen is required for BUYING a JEWELED chest
2,500 suncreen is required for going through freeplay, earning you, IDOLS and a CHANCE for a jewled.
I earn a jeweled event chest about every other time I reset for free play, so its WAY more worth it to go through free play, its a nice way to earn idols easily, while still getting you jewled chests, at a lower price, free play is the way to go, but do what u please :)
The consensus seems to be that Quantity is better than Quality.
And congrats to everyone who's gotten a J-Chests. 5 Freeplays for me and I haven't gotten one, but thats how RNG goes. Even normal silver chests only my first ever transformed to a J-Chest.
Then again, I've apparently gotten warps from silvers when that's not possible??? Ah well, it's a fun game, so I won't stress.
Thanks again!
(And if anyone wants to discuss this further go right ahead! I'm just letting all of you know I've made my decision ^_^ )
See, I'm very curious now.
Checking my Achievemnts, I've only opened 5 Jeweled Chests. I have a vague memory of ONCE getting a double of the same type of gold buff - but that could be the warp or the drop boost. I am also pretty sure two of the JChests had neither type of gold buff.
But I cannot be certain of my own memory.
So being curious - and annoyingly detail over focused - I'm going to keep written track of all my Chests. (Not going to post it anywhere, just a personal log).
So I can prove to my own satisfaction that YOU are right.
Bleh, now I have to work doubly hard to not record ALL the details. ( Like gold to dps ratios per level ). A sad pointless part of me just keeps wondering if I can figure out the formulas... Which would totaly take out 90 % of the fun for me. Weeeell, other than the limited fun of using those old math skills for once and solving a 'real-life example'.
Another "superstition" I'm sticking with is opening lots of event jeweled chests at once. It seems that if I open one event jeweled chest at a time, I tend to get poorer gear than if I open a lot of event jeweled chests at once.
It's pretty hard to "prove" a negative. Also, google confirmation bias.
All of SamiJM's advice is 100% correct and I endorse his message.
