Flat terrain
Currently when your base gets to a certain size, it beomes difficult to set up areas for vehicles, and even walls around your base because of the uneven terrain. this causes problems with both building and landing spaceships.

both issues can be dealt with in a number of ways. for building, you could slowly flatten the land with your shovel or build some form of cement slab to create a flat surface within your base levelling some of those smaller annoying hills and blocking the respawn of nodes in a certain area if need be. no matter what method, it needs to be time consuming so that people can't just level an entire mountain.

for spaceships, because they need a flat surface to land in most cases, we desperatly need a landing pad. simply a flat raised surface that will allow at least 1 spaceship to easily land would work.

The landing pad is a good idea mate!
About flattening the terrain... let me doubt about what could be flattened^^. There is no real terraforming in this game, and it would be impossible to add any. Although, the solution you mentioned with the shovel was cool.
However, I wonder how many spots could allow the construction of a big base, because the ground is clearly irregular...

The foundations are probably the best bet. The terrain is static right now, and not voxel based AFAIK, so making it dynamic would require a significant investment that I think all of us will agree could better be spent towards other features.

Though, I've noticed the habitat has really long stilts. The developers might be planning on doing something like Eden Star did and just allowing all buildings to be built on stilts up to a certain height to mitigate terrain bumpiness. I was already able to place a habitat on Aziel in an area so that I could easily walk under it, so now I guess it's a matter of extending these large stilts to other structures, giving height control, and making sure the placement code completely allows for placing structures on uneven terrain if they're high enough off the ground.
