Map Tool/Locater
Was wondering if you plan to or if we can, get blips on our Map tool. It really would be useful especially considering the maps will grow but also the obviously at least at this stage OMPA gets distracted or wedged and can become hard to find.

I also think a way to set waypoints is needed for sure. This to me is extremely useful in storms and such.

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about but something along these lines, minus the verbage. Only requesting blips.

Well yeah I know that and do use beacons but setting a waypoint is different in the way that it allows you to plot a location you have not yet discovered then help to keep you on course through all the kaos that insues upon your journey.

Does you car have a navigation system? Do you have to have visited a place before you can punch it as a destination? It's nothing crazy, that's the very least the technology in the game should be able to do.

And beacons are permanent markers that you can name, a waypoint is only temporary to help navigate, and it's much more practical than having to make and drop a beacon every single time you'd wanta way point, then you'd cover the map with them.

But the whole "map tool" need an overhaul, I'm guessing it'll come in due time, but right now it's become completely useless since as a map it displays virtually no information, and the grid coordinates are now on the hud.

I would like to see the map tool integrated into the helmet with a toggle switch to turn it on/off. Alternatively, a compass accross the top of the helmet hud would be nice to keep track of your heading once you determine the direction you want to go with the handheld map tool.

*sidenote - jetpacking with an equipped item (map tool, hammer, gun) should not impede your jetpack movement speed. Also being able to equip/unequip handheld items should be functional while in flight.

I realized after posting here that the lat-long coords are in the upper left corner of the HUD already, so all that's needed to complete a helmet nav is the compass heading.

I still think the Map tool is important or a map to reference. Just having Lat,Long does nothing unless you know the exact coords your trying to hit.

Agreed, and this doesn't need to replace the map tool, just an added compass so when you DO know what coords you're looking for you can reference it while moving instead of having to constantly stop, equip and check the tool for your loc.

just to clarify. You dont have to have visited a place to punch it on your nav. system, but others have to. Somebody made the map for your nav. system. Also you need a grid of satellites to orbit the planet (or moon in this case) to use it. If people have already mapped out the moon and have a fully functional navigation system in place, i think the survival feeling is more or less gone. I dont think you will ever find a map for your nav, system of an uncharted area.

Maybe we could search some of the abandoned places and find parts of maps to use in the map tool as we progress through the unknown areas? just a thought.

I think a map would be extremely practical however I agree it would have to be something that first you would have to explore areas for them to then be visible on the map.

Waypoints again practical, you can see the topography and should also be able to set a temporary waypoint.
