Full screen button causes problems that make play impossible

In Windows 10:

If I launch a game such as Poker Dice or Scythe and click the full screen button on the game client window, the Tabletopia menu app changes size instead. Often this blocks the screen so all I can see is a blank blue rectangle, the same colour as the Tabletopia menu app.

If I press alt-tab, I can see the game client as a thumbnail, but selecting it just shows me the blue window again.

I use two monitors and the main one is 3840x2160 resolution. The problem occurs whether or not I have UI scaling active. I've also tried using the Compatibility property to tell Windows to not apply application scaling to Tabletopia, but this does not fix the full screen problem.

At 3840x2160 resolution, the game client windows are too small to see, so without full screen or another way to resize them, Tabletopia isn't playable.

I've been using Steam to launch Tabletopia, but I encounter the same issue if I launch through Chrome.

Suggestions welcome!

Update: I was able to get full screen working in Firefox. I had never run Tabletopia in Firefox before. Not sure if this is a clue, but at least it's a workaround.
