TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE 2017 (RETIRED)
Jan 6, 2020
This thread is now retired as several of the issues here were resolved by the game's October 2017 patch.

For the latest information, please use the new Troubleshooting thread at:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/402330/discussions/0/2632850678910748507/

This is a list of common issues and information on how to resolve them.  If you're having an issue here and the suggested solutions don't help, please let us know.

The thread for the previous XNA Framework version of the game is available here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/402330/discussions/0/364041517012706924/

COMMON PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

1. Subtitles don't load
We believe we have resolved this issue in the Oct 13 patch.
This appears to be a bug in some versions of Windows 7. If this happens to you, please run Windows Update and install all "Important Updates". After completing the install and rebooting, try the game again.
(Verified solution for 2 users)

2. Screen distorted and then game crashes
This issue is due to outdated video drivers. Please update the drivers for your video card.
Common driver download sites:
Intel: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/
NVidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
(Verified solution for 1 isuer)

3. "Files still encrypted" error on startup
Steam has not downloaded the game correctly.  Uninstall and reinstall the game.
(Verified solution for 2 users)

4. No monitor signal on startup
We believe we have resolved this issue in an Oct 7 patch. The game will now boot in Windowed mode automatically if it does not support the current desktop resolution.
We are currently tracking this issue.  It can occur with some computers set to uncommon desktop resolutions (ie. 1440p).  If this happens to you, please tell us your resolution.
  • Workaround: Press Alt-Enter to toggle the game out of Fullscreen mode.  Then go into the game's Video Options and try different combinations to find what is supported on your computer.

Have you tried rebooting? Sounds like it's conflicting with another program. Does it happen in both Windowed mode and fullscreen?
UnholyPooter Oct 15, 2017 @ 9:00pm
i have tried rebooting multiple times. Even redowloading. it happenes in fullscreen and windowed and in all resolutions. it only happens during actual gameplay. Not when paused or in the main menu. Once unpaused its strobes but i noticed it doesnt seem to strobe on the dark colors Ex. Dark shirts or dark shadows Its hard to explain but makes me feel like im gonna have a seizure. LOL

We're not sure what to make of that. Perhaps try updating your video card driver?

In Chapter 1 if I select "Someone just killed Matt!" when calling Christina the game will crash. Video drivers is up to date, don't know what's wrong.

We're sorry for the issue, secf4ult, we've never gotten a report of that before. There should be a pop-up when the game crashes with important information. You can also try re-installing the game.

Well, I reinstalled the game and it's fixed, thank you.

I can't play this game. So sad. :steamsad:
Some kind of error message appears when opened. :steamsad:
All Seeing Eye Games  [developer] Jan 15, 2018 @ 3:29pm
Do you want to tell us what the error message says...?
donto-koi Jan 20, 2018 @ 4:13am
Hello. The message goes like this:

MESSAGE: OpenGL 2.1 support is required!

...then some bunch of codes appear. :(

Thank you. I'll send it. :steamhappy:

We're sorry, donto-koi-besuto, but our tech team says your video card is too low-end to support the game. We would suggest refunding the game, trying it on another computer, or getting a new video card.

Thank you for the advice. Will try this in another computer. :steamhappy:
