Whatever happened to "The Complete Guide To Going Postal"?
This is directed to RWS, specifically Vince and anyone else who was around during the first game's creation: whatever happened to the planned "Complete Guide To Going Postal" novel that was to be written?

According to the original website (accessable via Wayback Machine), this novel was to be written by Bill Kunkel (RIP) and Arnie Katz, creators of the magazine "Electronic Games", and NYC crime reporter Nick Graziano, and would serve as an expansion to the original game's lore/setting, providing details as to what really transpired during the first game, the US military's possible involvement in it, and the fate of the protagonist, as well as giving a little history to the real life phenomena of going postal itself.

Given that it was never released and that all mention of it was removed on the original site from the year 2000 onwards, I assume that you guys scrapped the project and just decided to move on with developing Postal 2. I'm curious if there's any rough drafts of it in your archives, or if any RWS veterans could recall by memory some more of it's contents.

If Lat or Toploader or anyone else sees this thread, maybe you can pass it on to Vince and see what he says? Figured that alot of people here would be interested in hearing about it, myself included! :popular:

Here's where I got all this from, in case anyone's interested: http://web.archive.org/web/19991109052646/http://www.gopostal.com/thebook.htm

I'll pass this along to Vince, but I wouldn't hold your breath - this was close to 20 years ago. Doubt there's any remnants, or if anyone really remembersm much about it.
I want to know also what happened to the Gimp :(.

He felt used and abused so he rose up against his captors and become something greater, a guy firing an assault rifle.

Ok, not a fully thought out origin story, but it works doesn't it?

Side note, it only recently hit me that that scene in Postal 2 with the rednecks and the gimp is a direct reference to Pulp Fiction. Part of that is probably because I only saw Pulp Fiction for the first time last year.

After killing his owners he wandered the streets only to be captured once again by Zed.
Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead.
Many people don't know it but there was a How to Guide published by a Game Book co shortly after the original was released. Separately Bill was planning to write a novel about it but it never happened. Once the ♥♥♥♥ hit the fan after Howard Stern read internal ad copy on live radio everything we had planned got ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Our publisher bailed on us and the struggle began. Since then there has been a more recent novel about the Postal Dude when he was a teenager, you can google it, and I think its on Amazon, it was written by a fan named Alisa Bogodarova. I hope this helps answer your inquiry. THX

Wow that's crazy, shame what happened but thanks for the answer indeed!
As he mentioned, there's a current Postal Novel if you want to check that out. It's very well written, has the same level of ambiguity of the actual game. And the author plans to make a sequel to the book based on the second Postal game, so at last Postal is making it in the world of literature.

why did I not know this awesome thing existed!
The terrorist actually calling someone "zionist" sells it for me. Perfect example of a person fleshing out the lore that was created already using other things from our culture.

yeah, it's pretty cool. I think there might have been more of this (it's called Part 1 after all) but this is all I had saved on my PC, sorry.
