The fathers are unklillable with just the harpoon, your ship gets sideswiped into the bitey things (it's a triggered event).
I can assure you they're not unkillable with just the harpoon. But if they feel very hard, you can try going down the big pipe at the crossroads.
It took me a few trys but it works.
The bubbles that shoot you into the clams on the walls are avoidable if you are close enough to the fathers.
Also it is not triggered by your passing, it is a random event and never happens twice within a short period of time. At least for my observations.
The way I dealt with them was always circling around them. When you are beneath them your hull repairs itself and you dodge the little swarms pretty well.
When you get to the top again (watch out for the bubble beam) try to focus on one of them. After one is dead the second one becomes easier.
But always circle around them. Never stop. And do net get too impatient or hasty.
What the hell were you doing to the side of one and so close to the wall in the first place? Sounds like a really stupid move to me.
First of all, you don't stop moving at any point during that fight. Their fire is always centered on you, so constant movement throws them off and gives you way wider space for dodging most of their projectiles.
What you do is lower your ship down into the room just enough to catch your bearings, understand where both seahorses are know which direction they're moving in, then drift back up. From there, you simply charge your harpoon to its maximum power, aim in the direction of one of the seahorses and let it loose. Your harpoon cannon has a pretty huge range when fully charged and so long as you understood the seahorse's location correctly, you can very easily hit it by firing blind and only sometimes coming down to reassert your understanding of their position.
I used this method multiple times and it worked every single time.
My first tries were like diving there without any tactic, circling around them and getting hit by blasts and stuff. You really need to just think about what you are able to do, each boss is like that, pretty awesome.
Try to attack from above and kill 1 father before the other
(update) I think one thing that helps is getting the Repair Upgrade from the secret room where the atomic symbol is located, to the North of Crossroads Station savepoint. Still seems ridiculously hard; this part really seems broken to me. Even when I am having a good run and I hit them 14-17 times, I can get pushed 1/4 of the width of the screen into the wall for an insta-kill. Or a swarm of children will get shot in front of me with no way to dodge.
Should it be taking 120+ seconds and 15+ shots to bring them down to half-health? I finally killed one of the two today, after getting that secret room upgrade, but man I have tried that fight dozens of times.
(update 2) Tried again, gave up, tried another day, and another.. finally got lucky tonight. I stayed up above them and just weaved between the children. Getting the repair upgrade was essential, and now I hate seahorses.
