How to learn MODO and not become a pirate?
Hi, I just start to learn 3d and choosed MODO because of low price for indie version. But I collide with unexpected problem - almost EVERY tutorial starts with those words - "ok, now we install those scripts/ plugins" etc.
So my question is - how I can learn MODO and not become a pirate or bancrupt (if I buy full version) ?

Just keep looking for tutorials that don't need scripts. They are out there.

heh, thanks for advice, there are really exists some tutorials on youtube from schoolboys who does not know Modo good enough to teach other, but, for some reason doing that.
Professionals - who use MODO in work are using (big surprise) FULL version and teaching with it. And first what they teach - is how to improve your work speed, and that's where scipts/ plugins come on the stage.

You can go the paid option, for example Pluralsight( former Digital Tutors).
https://www.pluralsight.com/search?q=modo&categories=course

Their introduction and quick start tutorials don't use any scripts and are good to learn the basics.

Only one of their more advanced Tutorials I encountered used some basic UV and toolbox script, but I managed to work around their minor use.

I have a free sub from MS and am very pleased with their tutorials, I come from Blender, but they are also for total beginners.

Generally scripts add only convince, not new features so I am quite happy with the Indi version.

Justin Marshal's tutorials on Pluralsight are very good. He has a very clean and efficient style much better than some of the the tutorals you'll find on Steam. Link below. You can get a free 1 month subscription. He does some nice get started tutorials for different packages including Modo which he uses really well.

But if you are starting out and on a tight budget check out Blender. The Blender Assault Rifle tutorial is good on Pluralsight but the author does sometimes miss out details or says the wrong command. But he covers most aspects of 3D modelling and makes a nice detailed model. I followed along with it and towards the end I was doing my own modelling, and loosely following along. See my version in the link below to show what's possible and I'm a noob.

There also some some paid for tutorials on Udemy but i don't know how good they are. There are plenty on YouTube but I found they are a bit amatuerish but you can pick up ways to use tools from youtube. Some are good. I'm sure there some good free full tutorials out there? Modo also has some on their site but I havn't taken much of a look and some of those are paid for.

You can also get a free 1 months copy of the full version of Modo from the Foundary web sight.

https://www.thefoundry.co.uk/products/modo/trial/

You have to be careful with pirated copies since sometimes the cracks don't work properly making the software unstable or unworkable. This can put you off 3D modelling. Of course sometimes the downloaders also attach Trojans and your PC ends up being a Zombie or you become unwittingly part of a Bot net. I do speak from experience here after using a DOS version of 3DStudio Max many moons ago in the days before the WWW when I was a poor student. I'm still poor now, so much for higher education.

Thank you guys for your advice - I'll go and try to learn something with Pluralsight's help.
Maybe I check Blender too, it's free at least )
P.S. If someone who read this and know good MODO tutorial which don't require scripts and plug-ins - then feel free and post link here.

Pat Crandly videos on YouTube are pretty good https://www.youtube.com/user/patcran/playlists

I've been using a mixture of his vids and pluralsights
First learn poly modelling, subd modelling, hardsurface, organic, uvtexturing, sculpting. Those fundamental skills don't need scripts.

It's finding the tutorials that is his problem though.

The videos from Peter Stammbach are also great addition in my opinion.

I've seen his tutorials before, but it's not quite what I need as a novice. His tutorials desighned more for specific tasks than for basic study of modo.

This tutorial from the Modo hompage is also a good start.

https://www.thefoundry.co.uk/products/modo/training-videos/warner-mcgee-training/

From my look on it, it is great and Warner McGee teaches this complicated subject of character modeling really good and in a way a beginner in Modo can understand.

I have bought it already, but only worked a bit on it and don't think you will find a better char tut!
From my experience, it dos not cover any scripts.
