Apparenlty you can use Vertex Map > Mirror, but I'm actually not able to get this to work. A new vertex map is created, but none of my weight values are set.
The whole process is less than pleasant though:
- In list of Weight Maps, select the weight map to be mirrored
- Make sure Symmetry is enabled
- Run mirror command (Vertex Map > Mirror...)
- Pick joint's weight map as the Source Map in popup
- Type a name for a temporary weight map as the Destination Map* and click OK
- Copy temporary weight map
- Paste into target weight map
Repeat for every joint needing to be mirrored. This is pretty much instruction from a rigging tutorial, which then goes into using a script. I'm glad the tutorial at least showed the non-script way to do it first.
I've not had luck finding an easier method. Anyone else?
*Apparently you can't target an existing map
