I believe one of our community members already answered your question in the original version's discussion boards. Please let us know if you've got any other questions. :)

The Redux version actually ran much better for me compared to when I first started the original version. When they gave us the Redux it just was far better for me. Very smooth. They optimized it very well. I don't know what you mean about the water because they are still basically the same game but overall the Redux is nicer visually in my opinion and smoother playing. Take care.
My basic specs are:
Windows 10 64bit
Core i5-3470K
GTX 980 SLI
16 GB RAM
Now here's the thing, the Redux is said to look better and run better - which is great. Obviously going with the more modern Unreal Engine 4 is the way to go.
But, unless I read wrong, as it stand UNREAL ENGINE 4 like quite a few other engines - does not support SLI.
Perhaps it wouldn't be a problem here.
Is there any way to force SLI in this game?
please do some research and let me know about this im actually curious too... but accord to some redux is actually a step backward in order to run smoothly on consoles... also because of conversion factoring into the poor quality... while certain aspect of redux is better..
Since I won't have the time to play the game more than once, probably, and since mystery games are usually a 1-time experience, and since UE4 and the upgraded visuals and fixes are on the redux version- that's definitely the version I am going to pick when I get to play this game.
Water quality in the UE4 version I'm playing doesn't look "blurred out" to me.

this always happens with "remasteres" They always make some things better and somethings worse.
the original is much much more beautiful and truly expresses the game's art direction as intended
So are you gonna come and beat me up for liking the redux version better ?? LOL
Maybe I shouldn't say that because you probably will !!
If you want a good game similiar to the Myst series the one below is quite good.

im not trying to beat up anybody just stating facts at hand regarding this game. nothing personal really... lol
was trying to help OP and others decide which one to enjoy
as for me i think the original is much better.. much more beautiful and atmospheric.
the original was made from the ground up and redux was nothing more than a port.
As an added bonus the Redux version comes with the new AA method TAA which I hated back when I used a 1080p display because it was blurry but at 2560x1440 although it still introduces a softness it's no where near as bad as it was at lower resolutions. This eliminates pretty much all jaggies and annoying temporal aliasing as possible which helps me with immersion.
PS: That being said, the water in the original is indeed better IMO, realistic or not it looks like a lovely painting.
I prefer the lighting in the Redux too, but if the Original didn't suffer from level streaming stutter it would be a lot harder to declare Redux as the ultimate victor. As it stands the Redux version offers the smoothest experince.
yea i feel like redux was a downgrade to help support consoles run smoothly.. but the original look better in certain important aspect.. like the water is just wonderful to look at and certainly add better sense of immersion.
