Normality
Hope this has the US version voice acting available.
Only let down for the GOG version was it had the UK voices and no Corey Feldman. Wasn't the same nostalgic trip without him.

Thanks very much! I'm going to give this a try!
I've heard great things growing up about this game, I'm going to save the playthrough until we have Corey Feldman's performance to complete this whole epic nostalgic experience. I really hope the devs manage to see this through.

Sadly at this time it will be the UK version. I will contact Funbox, and see if there is any possibility of other versions being made available. Thanks for your interest.
I'm holding you to it! >:P

if you've not played it before id recommend playing with the original english VA.

of course like the americans posting before me im probably nostaligic about getting the same experience as when i played this at release many years ago but saying that to me the original VA sounds so much better than the guy in the trailor
Hi guys,

I made a patcher for the GOG version to convert it to use the US voices without requiring an original CD.

http://www.gog.com/forum/normality/to_get_us_voices/page1

However, please note this probably will not work on the Steam version unless someone really just copied the GOG version to Steam.

---Technical info follows---

Normality never had a "full install" option. It only ever installed the main game executable and a few other basic things to the hard drive. Most of the actual game content - including voices - was always read from the CD.

The current re-releases run via DosBox and simply include an ISO of the game's CD that gets mounted to a virtual CD drive in DosBox.

GOG somewhat humorously tried to hide the ISO by renaming it to a .GOG file (the NORMAL.GOG file found in the GOG version is literally just a renamed ISO). I'm sure the Steam version works the same way, it's just a question of whether and how they hid the ISO.

Anyway, getting the US voices is simply a matter of using the ISO of the US version and replacing the executable (as demonstrated in Lockdonnen's YouTube tutorial).

My patcher converts the UK version ISO to the US version ISO by just changing the pieces of the file that are different so that it doesn't contain a full copy of the US ISO (and therefore I feel a little more comfortable distributing it).

Odds are the same general process will work for the Steam version, it's just a matter of figuring out where the ISO is. However, my patcher is currently hardcoded to look for a file named "NORMAL.GOG", so if that's not present, it won't work.

I do not intend to buy the game on Steam, so I can't do the legwork to make a Steam version patch, but it shouldn't be too hard for another technically inclined person to follow in my footsteps.

---

PS with deference to friends from the UK - the US voice acting is way better - even when it's bad. It's far more cartoony and over the top, which is more fitting to the game's style and nothing gives you 90s nostalgia like hearing Corey Feldman's voice.

---

PPS the fact the trailer on the Steam page is for the US voiced version, yet the version you actually get is the UK version qualifies as deceptive advertising and should be reported to Steam.

as i said before everyones perceptions is different and nostalgia probably plays a big part if you've already played this years ago.

having said all that i personally i dont feel like the american cartoony version fits with the style of the game. when way its supposed to be (the way the developers wanted it to be) is the original english VA

Eh, you don't know that. Given the situation and the era it could very well be more a case of "this is what we could afford" and not "this is what we wanted". Some of the UK VO sounds pretty amateur. Maybe when Interplay decided to put some money behind the game for the US release the developers were actually getting something closer to their vision. Someone on the original dev team probably had at least some level of input on the casting.

thats a possibility, not a big possibility however and compared to what i said is extremly unlikely.

as i've said nostalgia plays a massive part in which you think is better or worse and what you say about the english version i immediatly thought about the american version when i heard it in the trailor.

personally i think the american voice actor was brought in simply because americans typically dont get dry british humour which is why the majority of british tv etc is recast in america usually to negative effects
No matter the reason, guys, I don't see why there shouldn't be an option for all voice overs that exist, other than some intern accidentially deleted them.

And you believe that based on what inside knowledge, precisely?

Also note I pass judgement having played the entirety of both versions, not watching a 45 second trailer...

Nice theory, except that the script is the same and despite being recorded in Britain the main character has an American accent! He's even trying to put on a very stereotyped '90s "surfer dude" affectation, except doing nowhere near as a good a job as Feldman did - who spent a good chunk of his movie career playing exactly that character.

My guess would be it's a rights issue. In the UK the game was self published by Gremlin Interactive. In the US Interplay published and paid for the new voice acting. Interplay would have owned the rights to the US version.

KISS/Funbox probably only acquired the rights to the UK version. For the US version, it's likely an effort just to figure out who even currently owns the rights. I.e. see the story behind getting System Shock re-released, and NOLF still isn't available.

In any case, it doesn't even matter whether someone still has the original source files for the US VO. The game wasn't reprogrammed for Steam/GOG, it's simply the original version running in DosBox. You just need a US copy of the game and those are certainly not hard to find.

In any case, I'm pretty sure my GOG version patch could be applied to the Steam version with minimal effort if someone with just tiny bit of technical savvy reads my post. Failing that, I'll take a look if someone gifts me a copy of the game, but I'm not buying it myself. No absolute promises that I can deliver though. If they decided to protect the Steam version by sticking the whole thing in an encrypted container, it won't be patchable.

its based on common sense really, i dont need anything more than that for the first point and i too have seen alot more of the game than the trailor i went and watched a letsplay youtube clip for 30minutes to an hour to get the full experience and to me it was just horrible.

also i wasn't referring to the recent accusation of the game but originally why it was released like that.

im not sure where all the passive aggressive stuff is coming from either, im simply suggesting that people experience both voice actors before making a decision as there is no definitive "best" version and that anyone posting in here will always say the version that they remember is better because of nostalia

edit* quick google search shows my thought were right and the US version was redone simply because they didn't think the US audience would get the UK version

i like that you've made something so people can experience the game how they like sweetz i just wanted to put a point across that its not the definitive version or the better version which is what you said. it all comes down to personal taste and as i've said many times nostalgia (you just have to look at all the replies in the thread for evidence, everyone from the US wants the US version and everyone else wants the UK version). i've made this point now and as you seem to want to respond to each of my posts passive aggressivly attacking them i'll stop as its starting to derail the thread now somewhat

enjoy everyone

Wow. I bought this because the video had the American version... now come to find out it's the UK version. The voice actor for Kent makes the game unplayable for me.
It works Posting a new thread soon.
IT WORKED!!! Wooohoo!!!

If you want the US Voice Patch come to this steam guide I wrote.
