Does Atari suck?
Anybody here think Atari sucks and that their Atari games are outdated?

The fact people still enjoy playing them 30+ years later says something else.

Atari layed the groundwork for every video game out there regardless of the method used to play them. It's history and even though some of the games are bad many are good and even great. Like a lot of games are now and many others throughout the years and I'm sure for the many yeards in the future. I remeber playing Pong on the original standup version. Been hooked on gaming ever since.

That's not strictly true. There were plenty of other publishers and developers out there other than Atari. Activision for one.

This is the reason why I bring up this topic. In the beginning, Michael, the commentator for Rage Quit said, "Dodge 'Em? No, more like '♥♥♥♥ 'Em!' The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who made this piece of ♥♥♥♥." I think Michael is referring to the "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" as Atari, and he thinks the game sucks. I think he said that out of anger because he can't get past the first level.

Play the games and decide for yourself. Give the working arcade games in Atari Vault a try, and I'm sure you will love them. Some of the working games include Tempest, Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Space Duel, and Gravitar. These games are based purely on skill, and the gameplay is still awesome to this day. Don't bother with the ones that don't work, which include Centipede, Millipede, and Missile Command, sadly. Black Widow works, but is too restrictive on the player's movement.

I am a total Atari fanboy, these games will always be fun to me. Happy 40th birthday Atari 2600! (Or VCS)

Sure Atari are all but forgotten and as seen as a joke with many gamers nowadays, but Atari are historically significant. Same could be said for Nintendo, the people who saved the video game industry.

I grew up in the 80s and a lot of 2600 games where crap, honestly. However, a lot of their commercial arcade games where brilliant. In fact, just this year I bought the actual arcade machines for Centipede, Missile Command, and Asteroids Deluxe. The gameplay of these games are timeless kinda how checkers and chess is old, but timeless fun with a lot of replay value. I find myself playing the old Atari arcade games as much as I do my brand new games. You can't beat playing on the actual arcade cabinets - that's where these games shine - playing on a CRT or vector monitor with the arcade controls.

But the 2600 games, I didn't care much for them back when they where brand new. Their commercial arcade games where some of the class leaders IMO and my personal favorites of the golden age era of arcade games and I actually have more fun playing them today than I did back in the 80s.

Here's some pics of my games:

Original Asteroids Deluxe fully functional in great shape:

Well, to be true i think everyone else here think you are some ignorant troll kid with brain injury. How about that?

Outdated? Yes, sure, whatever. Even 5 to 10 years old games are seriously outdated now. What is your point?
Im almost sure people will not care about Assasins Creed Rogue or Call of Duty Ghosts 40 years after relase (lol, 40 years, people dont care about those already). And yet almost 40 years after release (NOW!) people still like to play Atari games, so i guess they did something right.

Did you ever look at the Rage Quit video where Michael was playing Dodge 'Em? That's the reason I bring up this topic.

If you actually look at the history of video games, Atari was one of the first companies to make video games profitable. Yes, there were other developers before them, Ralph Baur (the patent holder for most ideas associated with video games, aka joystick, interface, etc), Computer Space, the early osciliscopes, but it was Nolen Bushnell and the ppl at Atari that opened the flood gates. Starting with Pong, and going through the 2600 (VCS), Atari was considered the leader in video games.

Even after the crash in 1983, when Nintendo was ready to enter the US marker with the NES system, called the Famlicon in Japan, they orig. went to Atari with the idea of Atart marketing and selling the system in the US. It was only because Atari backed out, that Nintendo was able to establish video games again.

Here's an interesting documentary about Atari, and the "worst video game". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew8j62WaZ7Q
