got garry's mod a while ago… still don’t know where to start

i’ve had gmod sitting in my library for ages now. finally launched it today, messed around in sandbox for like 15 minutes, spawned some random junk, shot it, laughed once, and then just stared at the screen like “ok… now what?”

feels like the game has something to offer but i have no clue where to even begin. am i supposed to download stuff? join servers? make my own game mode? right now it just feels like i bought an empty toybox and no one told me what the toys do.

if anyone has tips or a direction for someone who’s finally trying to “get into” gmod, i’m all ears.

I figured the “mod” part had something to do with it, but I didn’t realize everything basically runs on mods. Any must-haves or good starter packs you’d recommend for someone still staring at a chair in gm_flatgrass wondering what life means?

it's not the sandbox aspect, it's that I have so many options that it's overwhelming and confusing as to where to start. TTT really interests me though, I'll look into that.

Hm..M9K Weapons..VJ Base,Drg base (and their npcs and nextbots..Like half life resurgence)
Just anything that catches your eye..You can and shoud download
