so are we all gonna use nexus or gamebanana now?
i dont even really use nintendo mods but seeing mods being removed due to legalities just feels so off. mods have always felt like they were free from that crap especially because they're just modifications and not an actual product or anything. its just depressing to see the one place that hasnt really changed over nearly 2 decades start to shift into a worse off place. i remember making this cool mario kart course on wuhu island and racing on it with my friends years ago. now ill never get to see that save we made of the course again cause the map is gonna be taken down. it just rubs me the wrong way.

enough of the rant though, are we as a community going to slowly shift to somewhere that cant regulate our mods? cause i really hate this.

While you could use other sites like Nexus or gamebanana they are also held to the same DMCA standard as Valve, its just because the workshop is integrated its convenient which is why its so big. These sites are also going to take down content when a DMCA notice is sent because otherwise they could become liable for distributing copyrighted content.

Ultimately valve is being proactive in removing nintendo mods because they dont want to risk dealing with nintendo's legal team which i think we all know from the news are a nightmare to deal with. Nintendo may have not come knocking today but who's to say they wont come tomorrow.
