What does the ":v" at the loading screen stand for?

I've always wondered what it stands for. Is it supposed to look like an emoticon (turned to the left) or has it a meaning. Thanks in advance :D

the :V, or the old Pac-man symbol, was the old icon for garry's mod. it used to be the icon for garry's mod 9.
