P.S: GMod was first released as a Half Life 2 mod, even older than GMod v1.
P.S number 2: They both didnt copy themselves. It's not like there is a sandbox game and then the creators of the game claim copyright on the concept.

Well, it WAS a HL2 mod, now it isn't but it runs on the HL2 engine/source.
