Garry's Mod

FPS lag on Modern/ HighEnd PC
I have a i7-9700k with 7 cores. 3.60ghz
Rtx 2070 super
48 gb ram
64x windows 11

I've tried going and setting the app to high priority and limiting the core usage to just 1 to 2 cores. selecting 1 or 2 cores doesn't show much of a difference anyways. Sorry for my spelling or grammer. I took an IED.
Just want to make this this run smoother and not so damn choppy.
any help would be appreciated.

P.S not here to start a argument on who's PC is better and who's is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Take that energy somewhere else, go to reddit for that ♥♥♥♥.

if you have **any** mods installed try fiddling with them, even if the mod is a map it could have done something weird to your pc

That's just Garry's Mod. To even have a stable framerate you have to run with 0 mods. But Gmod isn't all about fps hell I used to destroy people in PVP servers with an unstable 30 fps. Got a system similar to yours now and still manage to tank Gmod but that is because of the engine rather than computer specs at that point.

Visual enhancement mods and older mods tend to negatively effect the Frame Rate in Gmod.
Also the more NPC and players you have the more it'll bottle neck your Frame Rate.
I would consider auditing your Add-ons if I was you.
What that means is go Add on by add on. Making sure you have the most stable version selected and disable any visual mods you have selected and checking your console for errors and pay close attention to the bottom right corner of your pause screen for any critical Errors.
More errors you have the more it slows down Gmod.

Pretty much the right answer. The most you can do is disable addons that you do not need and especially if have visual enhancement mods then they could hinder performance quite a bit.

The game is just very old at this point with a very old engine. Not sure if you are playing on singleplayer or multiplayer, but on multiplayer you should still see rather good performance with those specifications, but still limited by the game.

In darkrp server's max fps I get is like 60 but the engine has to render all of the money printer filled bases and stuff. Idrc about fps drops in this game as a lot of the time it is my fault. Like if I spawn 100s of NPCS that fight each other I expect the game to crash at that point. Edit: In regular sandbox servers though if there isn't a TON of mods or it's mostly just weapon mods easy 100/200 fps.

I was gonna reply as well checking for solutions despite being on the x64 branch and all with my AMD Phenom II X6 1100T PC with 8GB of RAM and a RX 580 with 8GB of vram, and yeah my Gmod is really laggy for some maps for no reason despite that I can play even heavier Source games like Black Mesa.

So yeah not sure if still upgrade my PC next year (due to finnancial issues) or it's Gmod that gets very unstable with more mods installed.
