How to attract players into my server?

I got ability to create a server and it has been always my dream to populate my own server with lots of people and make it active. What did you guys always wanted in a server that no server could ever provide you? Or let me know which features I could try to make better.

I am also wondering if it's worth it to host RP servers nowadays.

There are YT tutorials. Or just rent a server. I already have a server so I am just wondering how to populate it now.

So it's a sandbox mode I take a guess? Or a custom one?

What addon lets you create weapons? And what do you consider useless addons? I also doubt that it's not really possible to make it any faster to download stuff, unless of course by removing not needed addons.

So that's for RP modes mostly I guess? It's hard to balance between addons and loading times, and I noticed most people leave when they see there are a lot of addons, so that's a big no no

If you aren't going to rotate maps, don't have 7 maps on standby for the server. Spectate your admins before you give them the act of judge, jury, and executioner. Fun stuff to do is what you consider and is all your opinion, and less time to download things is the same as the first.


RP servers will usually either steal all of your members because of popularity or get you players.

Like, how to set up spawn points and such, so for now I have resolve into hosting sandbox mode server for now, but maybe it's not such a bad thing cause it's a simple mode, without much of restrictions.

How do you balance between addons and maps and loading times? Cause for now I haven't seen any players join for some reason. What kind of maps do you like for sandbox?

gm_construct is a great map as it has everything you need to build something, you could try a HL2 map emptied from NPCs and scripts for the extra scenery when building.

I suppose, but it's such an overused map. I don't think I would get constant players that would come to the server everyday that way.
