Take a stand Garry, open the thread and make another one reinforcing your position. Locking things away or banning people when they say something you don't like makes you just as bad as the people you're trying to keep out of the Community.
If you want to go down the PC road it's a slippery slope that only gets steeper and ultimately becomes the very thing it's trying to stop.
Also Garry your new 'rules' fall foul of Japanese law, you might want to amend it for Japanese users and servers!
That's the part that got me angry enough to join the posts. It's already bad enough, and I would have responded to Garyr directly....instead he just ran away after pushing me like a little child so he didn't have to hear anything against him. He's in his own imaginary world where he can't possible have made any misstep or acted immorally, and you just need to accept it.
I do wonder, how does it run afoul of japanese law? I know how it's unenforcable, and possibly coersive, in American law but japanese? Im curious
So....crimes were happening. This is the internet. those thins occur. All of these are various levels of crimes. The phone call to employer one is false termination and a bigger issue about employee rights and the same "it's my business I can do w/e I want" bullcrap hitting it's logical end. The rest are crimes, they are the job of the police to shut down. Facepunchs own requirement and job is to collect data and forward it to authorities. They don't even have to ban unless the police order it removed. In fact, banning it WITHOUT forwarding it the police is obstruction of justice. And NONE of this was addressed by the rules, or Garry's statements. Garry doesn't care about these level threats, only what his imaginary caricature of his mother thinks, and Facepunch put the marketing department in charge and included a passive aggressive insult built on slang. So these issues weren't even discussed or brought up AT ALL.
I grasp what you're getting at, but they aren't the reason Facepunch and Garry did anything. Minecraft has these issues to. Hell, go watch FitMC, he details several times these occured on 2b2t, and the police were informed and involved right away so the server didn't "need" to do anything. Nor is this the first game to have this crap. And they explicitly do have to deal with 12 year olds.
Shed off that asinine delusion that this has something to do with political correctness or social justice. We've already explained it in circles, Garry Newman had his attention brought back to a aged game and subsequently had to enforce rules to tide the growing presence of scummery.
Obviously it is beyond Facepunch to monitor every user in the game let alone several dozen reports, they don't have the community infrastructure or software to do so. This expectation that they'll create a Garrysmod bureau of investigation to wax pedophiles, is comically out of touch.
Being a nazi is not illegal, neither is being racist. But these are still little issues that the majority of people want veiled from their precious line of sight.
I do agree with the rest of the statement if its true though
How is "report things to the police first, in fact reporting them to the police is -required- and anything less than record and report is illegal" in any way naive of unrealistic. I barely grasp the mindset needed to call it unrealistic, and naive is just way off.
As for a mouthpeace of a politician? I never used the terms political correctness or social justice. I have no idea who this mystical "we" that explained anything is, nor do you have any proof that Garry was motivated by anything other than his own momentary selfish indigence. I also never played the Godwin card, you did. Which one of us is political again? you might wanna try using a mirror before you insult me.
And third, I couldn't less what "the public" wants veiled. I've been consistent: You do not act in malice against or apply force against anyone on the basis you have disdain for their moral caliber. There's a lot of things I don't like, but I have no right to demand their exile for it. "I think it's icky" isn't enough to ban anyone. Shame? sure. Not wishing to play games with those people? Sure. Wanna RDM someone for it? Go for it. Want to start threatening people with permanent exile and making them live in fear of their own thoughts and ideas knowing that any slip of them toward people in the game they love will get that thing stolen from them? Go to hell.
The something important is the game Gmod. This is not nor has ever been about an addon. The rules of Facepunch demand "not being a ♥♥♥♥," "not putting up anything appropriate for the target audience"(which is purposely unclear at best,) and "do not speak anything harmful to Facepunch at our discretion." Garry states he would remove anything he couldn't justify to the imaginary caricature of his mother in his head. None of this has anything to do with an addon. And given these actions can be done and hosted solely by users, the server is by the logic YOU presented, forced to "remove" it by enforcing these standards on users.
I really dont get how people keep demanding "this is only about one addon." Not to pick on you, you're just the most immediate response.
I already saw the game literally on the news once-- but it was funny, typical gmod gameplay. I'm sure Garry laughed about it until he came to notice the more questionable servers. Then all he had to do was imagine if that content was being aired on the news.
He said it himself: "Like it or not, that's my name above the door so it's going to conform to my morals."
Real or fake, the thought is what matters.
