How do I add my own ai nodes to a Gmod map?
I'm the kind of guy who likes to just sit back and watch npcs fight in random maps. I find it entertaining because I've always been interested in the idea that it's never a you versus them situation in video games. I've been interested in this concept ever since I played Halo 2 on the original Xbox as a 6 year old. I discovered Gmod way back in the industrial age of early 2014. When I saw YouTubers like Ventauriantale spawn objects on random maps and... oh wait! Npcs? I knew I had to try the game for myself.

So I did and started pinning Half Life 2 npcs against each other, then when I discovered the workshop. I started doing ♥♥♥♥ like pinning Combine against Halo marines, or download a nextbot and watch them have an unfair dual with normal npcs.

I did all of this ♥♥♥♥ on gm_construct for awhile until I got bored and downloaded other maps. Obviously not every map on the Workshop is noded. And sometimes I found maps that were noded, but not that well.

I feel like going around and asking others to do it for me would be very annoying. So I just need someone to tell me how and what I could use to add ai nodes to maps that aren't noded in the slightest. Hope that isn't too much to ask for.

There's a console command you can use that will generate a rough mesh onto maps without them

This tool lets you place nodes around maps and even generate a rough nodegraph if the map has a navmesh
(Sorry for necroing)

There are 2 types of AI navigation in Source games, one is Navigation Mesh (for Nextbots) and the other one is Information Nodes (for HL2 based NPCs)

If you want to add Nextbot support to your level load your map and open the console pressing "~" and type in "nav_generate"

To add information nodes to your map open your level in the hammer editor spawn an entity and change its name to "info_node" now place them all around your level were you want NPCs to navigate, after that compile the level and your good to go.

If you want to learn more details add me, I agree with you completely watching AI fights are very interesting, cheers!
