just download mods with 4 to 5 stars only, they are trusted and they need at least 500 ratings. it would be dumb to create 500 accounts just to give people a virus. and do not download r e t a r d e d fnaf dupes

you can't get an actual virus (malware etc.) but some (mostly newest) have the so called "backdoors" that allow the addon creator to ♥♥♥♥ up your server setting while playing with friends (for example can give everyone admin privilages etc.) so watch out for that

don't download sketchy-looking addons,try to avoid filtering addons by the newest,always check comments (if there are any),test the mod yourself before playing with anyone else

It depends on where you download the addons and what modifications you use on gmod. If you just download addons on the workshop (like me) you'll be fine. But try avoiding downloading addons on any sketch websites. Moddb, garrysmod.org and the workshop should be the the only places you trust to download your addons. Any popular third-party services (like reshade) can be trusted but make sure you download the right files and not fake one that infect your pc. Just download your third party services from moddb or garrysmod.org. Hope this helps!

No, most of backdoors just mess up with your game. But there might be more malicious ones, I heard of some addons that open up a web page in game and ask you to log to your Google account.

Reminder, Garry's Mod will never ask you to log to any account, being Google, Steam, or such. If this ever happen, that's a nasty addon trying to mess you up, never give any ID or click on any link.

It depends, if an addon *requires* you to log on to like a google account or something. Don't do it, it wants to propably hack you. But there are not a lot of that addons and most of them are great!
