recommended server specs and preparations for gmod darkrp server
planning to get 2 2.4 ghz servers to run a server on, wondering if theres anything else that i would need or should get besides like ddos protection a UPS etc aside from a hardline connection to a high speed internet, planning on having a darkrp server with around 40-60 people on it, idk if im over planning for this or if im not preparing enough

2.4mhz? you mean Ghz? if so then 2.4Ghz Dual core probably isnt enough for 40+ players at once.

yeah i meant ghz, also according to its specs it has 4 cores, what cpu would be recommended for a server this size? i could always change out the cpu in them

i was planning on using one as a backup server but i was wondering could i possibly use both of them at the same time? the model of the server is a Dell PowerEdge R410, i figured for 40 people that cpu would be fine but i guess not

maybe something a bit more powerful, ethier more cores or a higher clock speed.

Looking at the specs, That should be just fine for your needs.

so it could run a 40 player server fine? obviously im going to put as much ram as i can into it, i have to ask though if it starts lagging could i configure the 2nd server to also support hosting the server or is this not something thats possible? just out of curiousity

I'm not a server tech, I'm just a software engineer. Buttttt... It has to be running on the same system; Atleast not unless you know what your doing and if your asking these questions (not saying its bad or anything) then your obv not a pro at this stuff and probably wont be able to / shouldn't attempt to.

When it comes to ram, Anything over 64GB is overkill for something like this. You should go for like 32GB (of DDR4 or better), Not a single memory card but something like dual channel or whatever those hardware gorks call em. (Like 2x 16gb or 4x 8gb)

Try to get a 256gb or higher SSD. It will make loading times... less painfull.

For cpu, anything like 2/3Ghz Quad core or better (Like mine is a 3.4Ghz Quad) should be just fine especially since your prob going to get a dual socket smb

You don't need any fancy gpu. Integrated graphics will work just fine.

Again, I'm not a server tech or hardware gork so I don't exactly know what I'm talking about but from experience; this should work just fine as its mostly above the specs of my own server that could handle 30 players just fine with over 3GB of addons. This should also be more then powerfull enough for any other server related thing you want to do.

After all this, As long as you have good internet then everything should work fantastically.

Wait, aren't the source engine servers singlecore applications?
