What does right-clicking with the classic shotgun do?

I was messing around in single player and I realized right clicking also shot the shotgun, so, i tested it out but it seems that it is stronger than left-click, why?

Im guessing you're talking about the default hl2 shotgun. The rightclick costs 2 shots and im sure it fires 2 left clicks worth of bullets at the same time.

It's a double shot, a mechanic that's been around since Half-Life 1.
