What happened to Elevator Source?
Elevator source has been one of my favorite game modes since the years of 2014 to 2015. Now I can barely find a server including how it doesn’t show its icon in the server listings anymore. I want to know what actually happened to this game mode and if there is a story for its loss in popularity or existence.

Yeah I remember watching Yogscast playing it then playing it myself , it was really fun at the time. I think at this point though it's just died out.

I know this thread is nearly 4 years old and the comment i'm about to post may be considered a necro but i'll do my best to give an answer and my thoughts in general.

Elevator source was also one of my favorite gamemodes, along with the classics such as sledbuild, deathrun, theaters, schoolrp, and darkrp before it was overrun by money-hungry server owners. God i used to play those back in the day in 2014-2016, i would give it all just to play one of those servers for one more day in 2015.

Anyway i do have a theory on how the game mode died, It just did over time. To be fair Elevator source was at it's peaking in 2015, and when 2016 hit it just died off, hence why almost nobody plays it anymore. (I do sometimes but i get sad because there's nobody else playing on these).

For some reason 2016 was the year Gmod drastically changed, Same with Team fortress 2.
Gmod for some reason during that year, the gamemodes/addons that made it good, it just died off and the gold that made Gmod good happened to run out at the same time.
Elevator Source, Sledbuild, Deathrun, People still play deathrun sometimes but it ain't just the same anymore, Sledbuild & Elevator source for some reason just died out that year.

So maybe the answer is the overrated garbage darkrp servers started outnumbering the good servers and thus the hidden gems that made Gmod great aren't really known anymore.

Just my thoughts, even though my steam badge says i got my steam account in 2014, i was playing Gmod in like late 2013 on someone elses computer. It's really sad to see things like this go downhill, the good gamemodes such as elevator source will always be in our memories, same with the addons that made it good too.

Nowadays Gmod and TF2 are completely different than what it was in 2015, Gmod somewhat got modernized to the brim and the God tier gamemodes started dying out, TF2's case the quickplay mode got nuked by valve, hence seeing pre-quickplay removal players still playing that game in this day and age is rare.

The only thing we can do now is find the addons from that time period that made gmod good, or find the classic gamemodes people are still playing on.

The time machine hasn't been invented yet, and the best we can do is wait.
I may be a Gmod/TF2 boomer, but that doesn't mean the memories are erased permanently.

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. :spycon:

I sometimes play sledbuild, pretty fun gamemode. Can't find any Elevator: Source servers though, cause i'd really like to play on one of those and invite some of my friends.
