However, it is also not fair to say that facepunch is lazy because 1. They have a pre-release branch where they actually test the game with patches, though being relatively calm right now, and 2. They are constantly taking in bugs and reports of exploits found in the game engine so as to keep you and me safe from hackers.
Though you might argue that this is because the game engine is old, but that doesn't justify you for calling facepunch a lazy company, in contrast to say... Valve
They took 5 years of absolutely doing nothing to make a card game
And 1 year to redux a map
For example, I don't really care about having below 100 fps, but when it goes under 25, and sometimes it does, then the experience gets a bit ruined. And I still strongly think that those problems can be solved. Let's take Batman Arkham Knight as an example. when that game first released on PC it had so many performance issues that it got temporarely taken down from Steam, but now, it's really well optimized, it looks amazing( I'd easily put it in a top 5 current games with best graphics ), and it never had any framerate issues after it got patched
Even when nothing is mounted gmod still has extra parts that Half Life 2 doesn't have.
So losing those few extra frames isn't because of "horribly optimization" It's because Gmod is always loading more content.
Source is primarily a single-threaded engine, with only the rendering pipe-line multi (and even then that's buggy on GMod)
You want better FPS? Get a faster CPU with a better Single Thread rating.
Try these console commands: gmod_mcore_test 1;mat_queue_mode 2
Getting rid of your add-ons and starting fresh is the best approach.
I get 300 FPS at all times on a i5-3570 with a GTX 950, 8 GB RAM, at 2560x1080 resolution.
2): Garry's Mod has relied on Add-ons since GM8. It's best off this way. Why make stuff come with GMod when 20 other add-ons have done it better?
3): This is entirely:
A. The add-on author's fault
B. Your fault (check your addons)
4): Once again, your fault. Check your addons...
Calling FacePunch lazy is rather strange considering how you won't bother fixing your Garry's Mod install
Mounting content from other games doesn't lower FPS. It's GMod having a LUA instance.
