Garry's Mod fails to load to main menu

Hi all,
I have been having trouble with Garry's mod which I had recently purchased. Garry's mod will not load past the blue loading screen with the facepunch logo. It always loads everything but then stops on "Finished!" and freezes. At the top of the window it says "Garry's Mod (Not Responding)", and I have to close it with the Task Manager. I left it running for about 20 minutes until it closed itself and gave me this error: "Engine Error; Awesomium has crashed or something - couldn't create NewObject!". Any help would be great. I have TF2 and CSS. Also, I don't know if this might be affecting why Gmod won't start but anyways, none of my games on Steam will start up unless I have "Enable Steam Community In-Game" unchecked. When its checked and I try to play, a little window pops up and says "Preparing to launch game", and immediately goes away. It sits there like its going to launch, but nothing happens. Thanks for all advice!

verify cache for all source games same thing happened to me it was tf2.

Right click on gmod, A list should pop up then click properties, a box shows up and find launch options then type in -windowed It will make the game windowed but it'll be able to run and be playable

Short answer: Disable any firewall software that blocks processes from being forked.

What's happening: The hl2.exe process tries to launch awesomium_process.exe. My firewall had a suspicious process blocking component that was preventing that process from being launched.

Long answer:
Took several hours of troubleshooting. Sysinternals Process Monitor lead me to the solution. I was using a firewall called PrivateFirewall version 7.0. It has a process blocking component called Process Monitor (completely different from the Sysinternals Process Monitor). In the main menu, I was able to turn the slider to off. That let my firewall keep running while allowing processes to fork children. I don't recommend doing this in general because if you have malware installed, it will suddenly be able to fork off child processes.
