LIST OF KNOWN GARRY'S MOD ERRORS/PROBLEMS + FIXES

Garry's Mod is known to have plenty of errors and problems.

In this thread I have some possible fixes. If your problem is not listed here reply, and I will get back to you as fast as possible.


GARRY'S MOD WILL NOT LAUNCH WITHOUT ANY ERRORS
This is mostly because its still updating, launch it, wait and it should start after a while, otherwise try to go to your Garry's Mod folder, left click on the .exe and do properties, from there change the OS to your current OS version. (Windows only.)

GARRY'S MOD IS LAGGING
There could be alot of things causing this, first check your ping, if its not your ping try another server, if you keep having the problem it might be that all the servers are hosted in a location far away from your location, causing lag. (example: People from Europe could have lag from servers from USA)

LONG SERVER LOADING TIMES
Do you got a bad ping like listed above, or is the server far away from your location? Try joining a other server or gamemode and look if that fixes the problem, this could also be because of a lot of custom textures, maps etc from the server your joining.

MISSING MAPS
If you join a server and you see "missing map ****** disconnecting'' that means the server has a map that you have not downloaded, you can fix this by searching the map name in the steam workshop, download it there and relaunch Garry's Mod.

MISSING TEXTURES
If you are missing textures, make sure all Garry's Mod textured games are downloaded and launched. (Counter Strike: Source and Half Life 2.) If you dont got those two games, you can always download its textures illegaly.

SERVER LIST DOES NOT LOAD
Facepunch is aware of this problem and clamed they "fixed it" but some people still have it. Mostly its better if you relaunch Garry's Mod till it works, if this does not work you could try to reinstall it.

MISSING EXECUTABLE
Completely exit Steam, then navigate to your Steam installation folder and delete the 'appcache' folder. Restart your computer and relaunch the game.

HL2.EXE HAS STOPPED WORKING
Go to your Garry's Mod folder, left click the launcher and change its mode to the newest OS. (This could not work if you dont got Windows 8 or 8.1)

IF ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS DONT WORK, TRY TO VALIDATE GARRY'S MOD FILES.

Strange.

Did you try to reinstall? It could just be a glitch, like i said Garry's Mod breaks alot.

Do you got Half Life 2 or Counter Strike: Source?

If you get missing map ... disconnecting" that means the server has a map you need to download manually. Just search the map name on steam workshop and install it there.

Well you seem to be running a 64-bit operating system so you will require the 32-bit libraries for garry's mod to work.

would i have to do this aswell since im on PC 64bit and how do i do it IF i needed to

ok well i HAD a problem but like it got fixed? ok so i was in offline mode on steam idk wtf happen i never set it to that but then all the addons i got rid of on garrys mod came back but when i found out how to go into online mode again then well everything was fixed? does garrys mod like need connection to steam friends or it wants to [troll] me? XD

Not sure, you could consider contacting steam support or you could google for further support.

Source engine is buggy and glitchy, and if we talk about garry's mod, em you know the story.

I have never heard of a gamemode you need to pay money for.

im missing all the texture well actully i have the outer model but i don't have any of the files for the rest i can see the models but they are not visble but have just white and black outline and there are long black lines from the middle of the map to my items and player every line the front and end of a line and just go to the middle of the map and thats it its weird but not too bad but it messes with the models from mods but they have the missing texture thing instead. if you can fix it i would but very thankful.

[Fateful Findings]

I have a problem with flyable/rideable entities that i cant find a fix for. I spawn the entity them get into it. The game makes a really bad sound then i end up flying the vehicle from inside the model, not the outside. i have tried using commands to fix but doesnt work. Please help this problem isnt listed anywhere on FacePunch or on steam.

Press F9 or either F12 i forgot.

You hear a screenshot sound and when you exit Garry's Mod the screenshot menu should pop-up.
