Garry's mod custom server setting not saving
When I go to put up a server on gmod, I change some setting such as spawn limits of entities and such. After I have got the settings I like, I start the game. When the game loads up EVERYTHING I changed has been ignored. The game basicly just used the default setting anyway. I would like some help on this if anyone can...

It happens to me too!
I think I solved the problem. Close the game and try this:
1)Open the SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\cfg
2)Find "server.cfg", open it with Notepad and clear it out completely(CTRL+A, Backspace)
3)Launch your server.

At this stage, the problem was(for me, at least) eliminated. Let me know if this worked for you.
Well I got the same problem and Grulice your idea does not appear to work but thanx for trying. Well I think its just garry busy making sure nobody can play rust.
My server.cfg was empty, I doubt it would have made a difference.
It's easier than you think, http://maurits.tv/data/garrysmod/wiki/wiki.garrysmod.com/indexebfc.html (courtesy Inventor8) has all the commands you would want to change in your server. Just make a .cfg file, name it what you want, in "Steam/steamapps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/cfg" add the commands you want to change; Example: "sbox_maxballoons 1000", all or most should be "sbox_". Save the file and launch a server, open the console, "~" if unsure of button, type exec nameofconfig.cfg and press enter, may have to reload map, changelevel mapname. Have fun building.
Same problems here aswell
Stop complaining that you have the same problem and read the solutions that have been posted. -_-
Humm so gary broke it tsk tsk tsk the console commands do work but sucks that the in game menu is fubar.
anyone think its a bug too?
After talking with a few of my friends, it may be client side. Some of them don't have this problem.
Hi guys, this thread is little old, but maybe this solution will be helpful to someone (and maybe you all know it already): instead of creating your own cfg file and executing it after the game starts, put everything you want to change into "autoexec.cfg" and the game will execute it automatically.
okay so i was searching all over for fixes on settings for the custom server not saving, and someone posted that there are commands that change them mannually. well i use a nifty little text file that automaticly executes when joining a game. i usually use it to turn down settings to the bare minumum, which thanks to the limit change commands i can just add them to the Autoexec.cfg located in garrys mod main folder... so exactly: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\cfg\ and in that folder should be a "autoexec.cfg" if not add one and edit it with notepad. so basicly a huge convenients! any questions just send me a message or message on this forum.
Also if that gets annoying you can make a separate text file named "whatever.cfg" (it has to have a .cfg at the end) you can add in the cfg file with notepad

and change them to your liking.... if it doesnt change the settings just remove the "sv_cheats 0" at the end
now when in-game depending if you are playing a scary map and you made a text file specifically for no props you would type in the text file like this without qoutes: "exec name.cfg" and it would change the settings or and if you had a different one it would be the name of the other one you had: "exec othername.cfg"
ok so all you have to do is open the menu (Q) and then go the right where it says "utilities" and go to admin>settings and under there is all the options you want. hope this helps
This was before that existed, look at the date
