Too Many Addons (RESOLVED)
If you are having a problem with your addons, where mounted games become unmounted, your spawnlist is suddenly and drastically reduced and addons won't install then you should know this:

For some reason, Lua has a limit to how many addons can be added. This limit varies, depending on the size of the addons you install, but once you pass that limit, all sorts of issues are created, including, but probably not limited to:

1) Empty spawnlist
2) Unmounted games that refuse to be mounted
3) Maps not loading textures from mounted games
4) Addons not installing / not functioning
And more.

If you encounter these issues, then delete a few unneeded or large addons. Eventually, it should work fine.

To me, it's a bit strange that a gaming program based entirely on modding would have a restriction on how many mods can be downloaded, but I digress.

If you are encountering any of the above issues, just delete a few addons and try again.

-----ORIGINAL POST-----

Yesterday, Garry's Mod was working fine for me, the only problems being that Combine Elite NPCs couldn't use the AR2, and dupes I got off of the Workshop weren't installing properly. Today, when I started up my computer, I got a boatload of issues. Here's the laundry list:

1) Nothing appears in the spawnlist, just the bottom two folders: addons and games.
2) Maps I played on yesterday that were just fine are now covered in purple and black checker textures.
3) This is an older problem: Dupes I had downloaded from the workshop aren't installing.
4) Addons I am trying to install aren't installing.
5) Games that were mounted perfectly yesterday are still mounted, but aren't working properly. I tried unmounting and remounting, but that didn't work.

What should I do? Any help would be appreciated.

Uninstall ALL of your Addons. Sometimes People On Workship Have NO clue what they are doing. also get rid of duplications. If that doesnt work delete all the files in your garrys mod folder then go into steam, right click and select properties on garrys mod and reconfigure the games cache. if that didnt make sense Google It

Thanks, I'll try it in a few days, once my finals pass.

Thank you, but I figured it out. For some reason, Lua only allows for a certain number of addons, and when that number is exceeded, it causes all sorts of problems. This is really disadvantageous for me, though, since I am an aspiring machinima maker, and I need a lot of props and addons. But, I digress. Thanks for your advice, but it's working now.

This is driving me mad. I had "fixed" it last night by deleting some addons, and lo and behold, it's back today. Deleted a dozen or two more, no dice.

You could try to defragment your files.

Library --> Right Click on Garry's Mod --> Properties --> Last Tabs. Option should be near the bottom

Did that already, nothing. Deleting some more addons that I might not use, but I use GMod primarily for posing so losing all of these props and ragdolls is getting a bit frustrating. Thanks for the suggestions though! Hopefully it just fixes itself again.

I got rid of 1 000 000 000 000 addons but still the ones left still don't work. I had to delete all my addons and I have tried to re install all of them by going onto the internet and re subscribing to all of the mods. I CANT RE SUBSCRIBE BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT DOWNLOAD AGAIN!!! WHY!

May be a little late but the problem is, I deleted my files and it was about 15 gb worth of it. When I would get on gmod it would take a long time to load but when I deleted all my files it was faster than ever, when I would get into single-player it would take a while and sometimes just shut off. It didn't take more that 5 seconds. I had gotten these problems mostly because of the maps that I downloaded for sandbox, these maps are MEANT to be big, therefore they are huge in memory. Deleting and unsubscribing, plus uninstalling the game would most likely help.

thanks for the help. as soon as i added a new game to my mounted games (recently got a half life collection) it only loaded 2 pages of addons and 1 addon on the 3rd page

I have a different problem, i haven't played gmod in over about 2 or 3 weeks, and when I came back, most of my addons were uninstalled by random, and about 3 pages were left. I installed TDMCars and played the game, when i came back today however, they were gone again. Can anyone fix this problem?

I've never had this addon limit before, and it has never affected me until recently. I've had 132 addons and it is now capped at exactly 49 (2 pages and 1 on the 3rd)

Yes but the problem started happening again recently with addons being restricted.
I agree: this problem still exists!
I think it is caused by the total number of autorun files. That can explain that many people get no problem with large addons installed.
By the way, it happens with legacy addons as well as Workshop addons.
