is Garry's mod.org safe?

I went to download a mod from there about a month ago and I went to sign in but it never worked and now i just read that the website could be unreliable. I just wanna know if it is a legit website and if I should stop worrying. Thanks.

The main problem is that much or most of what is there is old and won't work.

That shouldn't be a problem. I never created an account where I had to login, but probably that is okay too. I've downloaded maps from there that still work, and no account was necessary. It probably still has some other useful stuff and shouldn't pose any threat from what I know.

It was with my steam account but it kept on reloading the page and not working so i just went to the steam workshop and downloaded it from there.

Its a .org website so its probably legit its just what FloodFetter said its old.

This is your best option anyway because it will stay up-to-date without the use of svn or anything manual (as up-to-date as the addons are at least).

If you just logged in with your Steam account that shouldn't be a problem. This sort of authentication doesn't provide personal information about your Steam account to the site you are trying to log into.

garrysmod.org is a website made by the official developer of the game, Garry Newman. However, he accidentally deleted the domain (good job Garry). After a fan recreated it, Garry made the website redirect to garrysmods.org instead.
Official domains for GMod are:
garrysmod.com (holds the website blog, update history, wiki)
garrysmod.org (used to handle almost all addons)
