CSS is a great game
But I suppose you could use Half-Life's or TF2's Hammers.
Things like info_node, npc_maker, etc.
You can get Half Life 2 to mount your garrysmod folder as a content folder editing the config
Sadly I don't know much about this, I just extracted the game content from CS:S's vpk files and put them in my half life 2 installation.
So - if I'm to buy a game purely for the Hammer, it should be Half Life 2, then? And Cycle, could you explain more about "extracting game content from CS:S's vpk files?"
Edit: Does TF2's Hammer work well to make Gmod maps in?
It's basically a copy-and-paste.
And Half Life 2 is the game you want. Though, Half Life 2: Episode 2 would work, as well. If anything it'll give you more content for GMod to use (but not HL2's base content).
Can you map for gmod (uses multiplayer branch) using the singleplayer 2013 hammers?
