Mic quality and playing music in gmod.

Hi,

So yesterday I thought I had struck gold and was happy out for a few minutes.
I have been playing on an RP server and been trying to figure out how to play both music and speak through my mic using Virtual Audio Cable.

So, in short i did manage to get that working. Using VAC, I linked my Mic to Line 1, Line 1 to Line 2, and Line 2 to my Headset, so I could hear myself and my music. I'm using foobar linked to Line 1, so the music plays into Line 1, but so does my Mic, and I have this set as my Default Mic on Steam and Gmod.

So here I was playing music and thinking I was great, because I had my friend there and he was telling me the quality was crystal clear. This friend lives near by me, and we were in a Skype call, but I had Skype linked to just my Mic and not Line 1 so he couldn't hear the music through Skype, only when I played it in Gmod. I verified this, so its got nothing to do with Skype.

The problem was, everyone else was getting crap quality sound from me. My connection to the server was very good, so it cant be that. What I have noticed is when testing the mic in Steam overlay, the quality is good, but when I test it in Gmod 'voice' options, the quality is bad.

As I said my mic is crystal clear on Skype, Teamspeak etc, but for some reason not on Gmod. I have tried fiddling with recieve and transmit volumes, boost volume gain etc, but to no avail.

So yeah, i'm trying to figure out why the quality is bad only in gmod for a good mic. Its probably always been like that, I just never cared until now.

Apologies for the overly long explanation, I did so yo give an idea of the bigger picture and cover all aspects.

Perhaps there are things I must edit in Gmod folder for mic options? I don't know.
Hope this is enough info to get an idea of whats going on.

I can of course help anyone who have been trying the same as I (music+voice) if the wish to try it for themselves.

Hey there! I dont know if this is still an issue for you or if you have found a solution but I am having a similiar problem but it seems to be a problem no matter if i use vac or not. Any help on why the sound is awful would be amazing!

usually when your mic quality is bad in a game its usually because unlike discord teamspeak etc they have servers dedicated towards mic quality, but in gmod they don't so the mic quality is bad when used in gmod
